Established 3/3/2002 as the chat companion to the rec.woodworking newsgroup.

A few people on the 'wreck' evidenced some interest in a chat channel on IRC. There are a few different ways you can get there from here.

If you prefer to go the easy route, I have a version of MIRC thats all set up with the exception of your personal information. Just download and unzip it, and then print out/follow the woodchat.txt file. Once you connect, this client will automatically join #woodworking and you'll be chatting in no time.

If you are already familiar with IRC, you can find us on the #woodworking channel on chatuniverse.

You can download the preconfigured version of mIRC at the following URL:
http://www.wood-workers.com/users/chipsndust/IRC/download.html

If you would rather not take the trouble of installing a chat program, there is a very easy to use online chat client at the following URL:
http://www.frontiernet.net/~coppock/chat3
(note: You may see a popup message from Verisign asking if you are sure that you want to install and run jirc applet. It is okay to answer 'yes' to this.)

Update (Aug2002): Due to the flood of D.O.S. attacks on Dalnet over the last couple of months, we have moved to the Nocturnal.ChatUniverse.net server on the Chatuniverse network and things seem to be going pretty well.
