Recommended Ventures Music

The Underground Fire membership nominated their favorite songs from The Ventures discography for:

The Ultimate Ventures Album

or
THE ALL TIME ONE OF A KIND SUPER DUPER BEST EVER IF I WAS ON A DESERT ISLAND OR IF I WAS GOING TO BE SHOT INTO SPACE FOR A MILLENNIUM Top 26 Ventures Songs!

The original plan was to be somewhat retro, as if we had our own vinyl-pressing plant. Our "record" would, of course, have 12 songs. Michael Corbett, with some help from his Excel-wise wife, tabulated the nominations. In his final analysis, one vinyl disc wouldn't do the job, so we have a 2-record set! The list follows, with each song's original album source.

About the Sato Project:
Well, after a lot of reading, listening and comparing, I have finished the Sato Project duplicate name list.
In 1985 Leo Sato of Toshiba/EMI proposed a Ventures tour for which 8 instrumentals were written. The tour never happened and the 8 tunes were not given titles.
Then in 1988, when the fan clubs were begging for any unreleased material, Mel & Don decided to let the 8 tunes out with a dozen or so other oddities to the U.K. and U.S. clubs.
The trouble was that both fan clubs released different products. The UK club gave us two tapes in 1987, containing 33 tunes. The next year we got a 20 tune tape from the US club, that had a couple of new tunes and gave SP numbers to seven of the songs found on the UK tapes. The one song that wasn't on the UK tapes, (SP-II) was named "Just a Kiss and That's All" by Mike Kuhn. I suspect Mike noticed that this was the only SP- that needed a name, and solved the problem before issuing the tape.
Another tune on the UK tape, Blue Horizon, written by Ventures associate Bob Spalding, was also released as Spindrift on the 12 inch 45rpm EP titled Stars on Guitars...... Del

P.S. SP-VI & SP-VIII have been redone and issued as bonus tracks on the new GNP/Crescendo album "New Depths", which is the stateside release of the 1997 Japanese album "Wild Again II."

Thanks, Del & Jim!
