We’ve been getting into the habit of holding a spring party in May, just
around the time that the lilacs are in full bloom.
Bruce usually spends the morning of the party making arrangements from
the many cultivars of lilac we have growing on our property.
Combining the lilacs with a few of our tulips makes a nice display!

Peonies are also one of our favourites. We’re still trying to find a way
to hold them up, especially when it rains.
In addition to a few different herbaceous varieties, we’ve got a couple
of tree peonies as well. Stay tuned for some spectacular pictures of those!

Bruce’s latest interest is in roses. There’s such a huge variety of them
that it’s pretty overwhelming to contemplate.
Our northern climate narrows down the choices quite a bit, but there are
still some beautiful ones to grow.
Last year, Bruce read a book about competitive rose growing, and while he’s not about to enter any competitions, he did learn
a few things about how to grow roses in containers and shelter them from the
coldest weather in the garage. This allows us to grow some hybrid tea roses
which otherwise wouldn’t survive the winter.
