1970 Pontiac LeMans - 1996

I'm from Wisconsin, the home of well rusted cars.

My first car in 1971 was a 1961 Olds Dynamic 88 wagon, then a 1958 Chevy, followed by a 57 Chevy, 55 Chevy, 62 Corvair, 55 Chevy Pickup, 64 Olds Cutlass, 64 Catalina, 64 1/2 Mustang, 65 Corvair, 67 Chevelle SS (w/327) and finally before I grew up a 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix.

I have been telling my wife since before our wedding day, "I would like to have an old car some day". My wife knew I had the "old car fever" and was wonderfully understanding about my desire to buy an old car.

Then in 1996, a quick search on the internet brought the Tucson Arizona Star and lunch hour time was spent combing the antique-Classic advertisements. Hopes were high, a few good deals came and went. Some Money was spent on long distance phone calls inquiring about the Tucson rust free classics. Most people were surprised to find their local newspaper on the internet and just as surprised to hear a buyer calling from Wisconsin.

I had a desire to find an old car that needed work but it was hard. Most old cars in my price range were mostly "just painted" or "junk".

Memories of driving my 1971 Grand Prix came racing back. Flashbacks of good times in a great ride returned. I was stuck on the Pontiac. This LeMans was just what I was after. A car that needed work, but was mostly intake and not "just painted". After a few days of price negotiations a reasonable amount was agreed on and the deal was done. I checked out the car on a hoist, gave it new tires, fan belt, oil change, lube job, differential fluid change and I was on my way, 2072 miles to Wisconsin.
