Artist's Statement
My art career began in 1970. I started seriously drawing and painting while I owned and ran an art gallery. I have been deeply involved in drawing and painting as well as running art galleries most of my life.
I paint primarily in acrylic and draw in pastel. I started doing pastel drawings/paintings about eight years ago. Drawing has always been an important part of my work, most of it occurring in my sketchbooks and preparatory drawings. Since moving to Wenatchee five years ago I have been studying ceramics in addition to my other artistic endeavors.
I have exhibited my work on the west coast, first as a printmaker doing etchings and monoprints, then as a painter. Life seems much more precious when I am exploring it through drawing and painting. Time slows and stretches when I am working. It takes on a meditative quality and releases me from the usual busy day-to-day activities.
I returned to college a number of years ago, completing a BFA at the University of Minnesota in 1996. I worked as director of Gallery at Salishan for a time, but then moved to Wenatchee, WA. For the first time I have the luxury of painting without also holding down a full-time job. It has been a wonderful opportunity to explore working without time constraints. I have expanded my interests and have been doing some abstract works in addition to some sculptural ceramics, which are primarily related to figures.
