Baptism In Jordan

  Baptism in the River of Jordan in 1998 is a memory that lingers today.

It was a blessing!

And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Now John himself had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leather girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. -Matthew 3:1-6

John the Baptist was a prophet who prepared the Jews for Christ’s teachings by teaching repentance, or turning away from sin, and baptism.

River Jordan: - This is a song I sang when a child, never dreaming that I would someday be baptized in Jordan River

My Baptism

Dear Lord, in simple faith and trust,
Obedient to Your command,
I'm baptized in Your precious Name.
Before the world I take my stand.

I'm covered by the waters as
A picture of Your death for me,
And rise to walk in new-found life,
You bought with love at Calvary.

Such love demands my total self
surrendered to Your full control.
Please keep me centered in Your will,
With Your "well done" my only goal.

I know if I obey Your Word,
There's no good thing I'll ever lack.
And so I'll follow where You lead,
And there will be no turning back.

Baptism

Come and walk with me awhile,
I heard the Savior say;
I'll lead you out of darkness
And into a glorious day.
Come and share my happiness,
Put aside your doubt;
I'll show you wonders never seen,
What life is all about.
Come and take my hand awhile,
And never be afraid;
To come and walk back home with me,
Is the reason you were made.
Come and wash away your fears,
And place your faith in me;
As cleansing waters flow around
You'll find eternity.

Article on the Jordan River

The place chosen of God for the introduction of the Messiah to the nation was the lower Jordan, at, or near, the very spot where the waters divided for Joshua on Israel's entrance into Canaan.  Here John the Baptist established himself, and began his work of arousing the nation to expectancy.  Soon all eyes were focused on him, wondering if he himself were the Messiah.  Then supported by a demonstration from heaven, he pronounced Jesus to be the Messiah.  Here was also Jesus' closing ministry.  what memories clustered here! - Halley's Bible Handbook

 I assume there is no Christian who does not acknowledge the necessity
for and the importance of baptism "of water and of the Spirit."
None could legitimately deny this necessity in view of the
statement given by the Master to Nicodemus: "Except a man be born of water and of the
Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." (John 3:5.) Gordon B. Hinckley

You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.
