~The Beatitudes ~

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

God alone can give us these qualities. His grace and glory surely makes one happy. These blessings are the characteristics of one who has been saved. Check your life to see if you have them.

Blessed are the poor in spirit: The poor in spirit are opposite to the proud and haughty in spirit.

Blessed are they that mourn: God will help and comfort all who mourn whatever the case may be, over a lost loved one or when one mourns over sin.

The meek refers to those who have humbled before God. They will have Heaven and also share the kingdom of God in earth.

To hunger and thirst after righteousness. -These are those who experience a deep desire for the things of God. They will be completely satisfied. Psalm 107:9

The Merciful: A divine love brought forth by the Holy Spirit. Jesus showed mercy on the cross when he cried Father forgive them" Luke 23: 34

The Pure in heart are the ones living free from sin. The process of sanctification is ever conforming them to Christ. They will see Jesus.

The Peacemakers: Those who desire to live in peace, and are right with God. The peace they have enables them to be an ambassadors of God's love to a troubled world.

The Persecuted: Living a holy life can cause one to be in contrast to the world, as one who followers Christ is often persecuted. One is blessed by Christ when persecuted.

The Reviled: They reviled Christ an so they will do so to us. Through out history there has always been attacks of slander and persecution. We can rejoice and be exceedingly glad. The reward is great!

The Christian life isn't difficult - it is
impossible. If we don't know that, we will
try to do things ourselves. Faith is not
necessary when we think we can do it ourselves.
Faith is when we realize that we
cannot live on our own

~Joseph Garlingen
