Hello, my name is Aaron Salisbury and welcome to my personal web site and e-profile. I designed and built this site primarily within Visual Studio using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.

I am a veteran from the Army, having had been honorably discharged as an NCO. Currently, I work at Skyward as a software engineer within a primarily .NET environment. I also like to develop little free-to-play games for fun, for my website, as well as author a development based tech blog. I am married with three children and have multiple hobbies.

I am a graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, having majored in Computer Information Systems with an emphasis on Application Development. I also minored in Web & Digital Media Development. I chose to pursue a higher education in-part to be more competitive in the workplace, but also to do something cognitively rewarding.

Computer Information Systems course work covers many areas of technology in order to better support organizations. Some of these areas include project planning & proposals, web technologies, discrete mathematics, software design, production programming, networking, and the design & use of databases.

Hobbies

Amalgamate Labs

Amalgamate Labs

Currently my main hobby and passion is developing games under Amalgamate Labs. I'm working on my tradecraft and would like to devlop, consecutively, a full title for every generation of games. From 70's era text-based adventures to now.

Blog

Developer Blog

A place where I can cement ideas & techniques I pick up while developing. I like to include software development tips, code examples, open source software, best practices, and product development stories.

YouTube

YouTube

I am not too terribly active on YouTube, having mostly just submitted various school projects so far. I would like to use my channel in conjunction with my Stack Overflow profile to create mini-tutorials for programming and computing tasks.

Kayak

Kayak Fishing

Kayak fishing is my favorite kind of angling and I try to go out often. Currently I fish out of a Perception Sound 10.5 Angler that I customized. It came with a anchor trolley and anchor kit, one Scotty rod holder, and a bungee paddle holder. I added a second Scotty rod holder and a Lowrance fish finder/GPS on a ram mount.

Steam

Steam

I've largely migrated from console to Steam, although I rarely am able to actually play. That said, this is my preferred platform, and one that I'd like to develop for. Check out my profile and if you play, feel free to add me.

Xbox

Xbox

I started playing Xbox during my first deployment where I was introduced to Halo 2. Soon I networked multiple barracks and we were hosting multiple full 16 player rooms. Also during that deployment I blew up two 360’s thanks to the 220 power source and poor converters. While there, I got to meet some members of the Bungee Halo team who visited to promote Halo 3 and that was one of my early inspirations of getting into development.

deviantART

deviantART

I haven’t contributed here during my time in college, but I’d like to get more active again with some original creations as I progress with digital illustrations in GIMP and 3D asset creation using Blender.

PC Part Picker

PC Part Picker

Computer hardware is a hobby of mine that is limited only by funds. You can check out my current build on PC Part Picker, as well as some of my ideas on future builds, like a home server and HTPC.

MVA

Microsoft Virtual Academy

It’s pretty amazing how much free education is at Microsoft Virtual Academy. Just login with a Microsoft account and you can take classes ranging from introduction to JavaScript to advanced game development techniques in Unity, and more. The modules are set up nice and you can create a custom learning plan(s). My goal is to get on here at least a few times a week.

Indie Gamer

Indie Gamer

Indie Gamer is a major collaboration hub. You can seek or offer assistance for almost anything, from composing music to help with ironing out contracts.

Stack Exchange

Stack Exchange

My goal is to get a lot more active on Stack Exchange as I become more proficient as a software engineer. It's a community that has helped me out often and I'd like to help it thrive.

Unity

Unity

Unity is a pretty terrific game engine and has a great community behind it. Here I try to contribute by offering input and answering questions.

gamedev.net

gamedev.net

GameDev.net has a bit of everything for independent game developers. A marketplace, journals, articles, and even classifieds. It is the forums though that deliver with top-down indie development and business.
