AG1C

Welcome. My name is Larry and my interests include firearms and amateur radio. I am a card carrying member of the evil NRA and the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).  I am a political independent, but I am conservative and tend to lean somewhat to the right. If these things bother you, please consider using the “back” button – that’s what it’s for.

“AG1C” is my FCC issued radio callsign and it quickly becomes a habit to use it for all manner of identification… Enjoy.

The Southborough Rod & Gun Club in Hopkinton, Massachusetts is where I can be found most of the time. The club has trap, skeet, sporting clays, archery, and, of course, rifle and pistol. A beautiful man-made trout pond graces the club and the clubs annual “Kids Fishing Derby” is well worth attending! The club also has an amateur radio station located across from the trap fields. We use the club station – and the club callsign, W1SRG – for most radio contests.

In addition to the communications facilities at the club, I also maintain a Peet Brothers weather station that transmits weather data via a VHF link. Something good to check before coming out to shoot a round of clays!

The third weekend of June is the ARRL’s annual Field Day weekend. Amateur radio operators in North and South America take to the fields to demonstrate – and practice – their ability to set up and establish emergency communications. These skills come in very handy should any disaster, man made or natural, disrupt or destroy normal communications methods. As with any event that brings folk together, the ARRL Field Day is also a social event. Dave, G3VGR, has chronicled our efforts over the last few years on his web site.  In addition to recording our Field Day efforts, Dave also maintains a wealth of information regarding Amateur Radio on his main web pages. Well worth the visit!
