Mr. Hitchcock's Class Requirements for Math Classes

Class meets twice weekly - Two lessons will be taught at each session. The student is to have read
the lessons to be covered before class begins. Both lessons are to be completed by the beginning of the
following session. Completed and corrected lessons are to be handed to the teacher at the next session.
Tests   are taken at home and turned in the first session of the following week.  Testing begins after the
second week and each will cover four lessons.   This allows the  student to practice any material for
two full weeks before being tested.  The teacher will correct and score all tests.
All problems solved in a lesson or test are to be completed in pencil on loose-leaf  paper in a neat and
orderly fashion. The problems are to be numbered in order and in two columns having odd numbered
problems on the left and even numbered problems on the right.
Show all calculations together as part of the solution. (No scratch sheet is to be used for calculations.)
( Calculators not needed in Math 87, Alg. 1/2 or Alg. 1)
Word Problems must include a plan or formula, show the step-by-step process of  solution and
the answer is to be circled including proper units.
Geometry Problems must include a picture (neat drawing) along with the plan, process, and the
              answer is to be circled.

The student is responsible for his own textbook, and other supplies. The newest edition text will be used.
( Advanced Math the 2nd Ed.) (Algebra 1/2, Algebra I & Algebra II  the 3rd Ed.)
The teacher will supply all tests. Solutions Manuals are NOT for student use. Parents, please verify
that all homework is completed (showing all steps and calculations) but do not correct the even
numbered problems.  Those corrections are done in class and are basic to class discussion. If you
do those corrections at home you deprive your child from participating in that discussion.

Grading Procedure:
Test Scores - 50% (late tests lose 10% of their value for each class period late)
Tests MUST be monitored but  not corrected by the parents.
     Problem Sets - 50% (10% on time,  30% completed and  10% neatness)
On Time - 10%     Problem Sets are due in the class following the one in which corrected.
Completeness - 30%   (5% is subtracted per problem which is missing or for which all work
is not shown. After 6 incomplete problems no grade is given.)
Neatness - 10% All work is to be legible and written with a mechanical pencil on four quad
(4 squares per inch) graph paper. Graph paper is helpful in keeping both lines and
columns straight. It also helps make freehand drawings neater. Writing must adhere
to the lines and columns of the paper.  All graphs and drawings are to be completed
using a straight edge and appropriate drawing instrument.

Grading System
