*What's a Yooper? A Yooper is an individual born
and raised in the U.P., the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You'll find us all over the country ,
but we still have strong ties to this special place. The complete Yooper
Creation Story is written below. Click here for a Togo! A basic
pasty recipe is also included!

"Da utter world down below" refers to
Lower Michigan where the "Trolls" live, and "Da bridge" refers to the Mackinac, which connects

Many of us would have starved as teenagers if it
weren't for Togo's Sub Shop. Now, a visit to town isn't complete without a #8 or #16
Togo. Ingredients are listed below to refresh your memory:
Subs include pickles, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, salt, pepper and Togo's traditional sauce. #8
is your basic with Ham, Salami, Bologna and American cheese. The #16 includes Genoa,
Mortadella, Capicolla, Cooked Salami and Provolone. Yup, you just have to have a side of hot
peppers, too.

If you're a Yooper, you probably already have your
own variation of a pasty recipe, but if you don't, start with the basic recipe below.
1) Pie crust (packaged pie crust dough)
2) 1 lb. round steak, cut into 1/4" cubes
3) 1 3/4 c. potatoes, peeled and chopped into cubes
4) 1 1/4 c. chopped onion
5) 1 tsp. salt
6) 1/4 tsp. pepper
7) 3 1/3 tbsp. butter
Prepare pie crust and divide into 5 equal portions. Combine filling ingredients. Roll out
each portion of crust to an 11" circle. Spoon 1/4 cup filling onto half of each pastry circle,
and dot with 2 teaspoons of butter. Fold pastry over filling, and seal by crimping along
edges. Poke a few holes in top of pastry. Bake at 425 degrees for the first 15 minutes,
and then lower temperature to 375 for an additional 30 minutes. Serve hot, and top with catsup
or hot sauce. Some people even like to use gravy.
Remember, this is the basic recipe. Experiment as you like, and enjoy.
