Sitting alone by the window Watching out on the street Bending my ear to listen To the wellknown sound of your feet.

Oh Irma! my heart is breaking How can I bear the pain Watch and wait at the door and gate And wait for your coming in vain.

For your love it was my heaven Your kisses that made my life Your dear little smile of sunshine My comfort in sickness, in strife.

How I miss, "Good morning, Mother", And "Goodnight, Mother dear", And the thousand other sweet words, That I can no longer hear.

The girl of my heart, My Ideal, The jewel of a mothers heart One of my dreams of the future. And from you I had to part.

My sweet Irma, a tender flower Died in her tender youth After a severe illness Yet, I cannot realize the truth.

So please, Dear Lord in Heaven, Who knows my aching heart, Take me some day to her Where we shall never part.

Tell her the days are so lonely, And the nights are so drear And all the children miss her And wish that she were here.
