Procedures for Sculptures by Commission

• Clients propose an idea for a sculpture with a written
description of desired elements and/or theme, location, size,
material, color scheme, and possibly pictures or sketches.

• Consultation takes place at the location where the sculpture
will be displayed. During discussion, the artist will sketch
basic designs to put a visual image to the idea. Before
departing, a $35 design fee is required to begin
  preliminary models.

• Artist then creates preliminary maquettes (small clay models)
and watercolor sketches for a second consultation. Design
is discussed and changes are made, if necessary.

• Artist creates an estimated budget of materials and hours.
Included within these hours are consultation time, design
time, materials purchasing time, and actual sculpting time.
A deposit of 50% of total cost is required to begin work.
Due to fluid nature of sculpting, budgets may need adjusting
as work progresses. A price "cap" is decided before work
begins in order to protect the client.

• Works begins with the payment of deposit. Completion time
varies greatly depending on size and nature of the project.
Pricing and
Method of Payment

• The estimated budget is calculated from materials
estimates and hourly wage estimates of $20/hour.
A final "hard" budget of actual hours and actual
materials receipts is given at the completion of the mural.

• 50% of the estimated budget is required up front.

• The number of months to completion is estimated and
bi-monthly payment amounts and dates are established.

• Total of the hard budget (minus deposit and other payments)
  is due upon completion.
Installation

• Pedestals and sculpture stands are the responsibility of the
client unless other arrangements are made.

• Artist will work with the client and/or builders to create
a base suitable for pedestal installation, and will provide
  some hardware for installation.

Maintenance

• All sculptures, both exterior and interior, are the responsibility
of the client, unless otherwise determined.

• Artist will educate client as to method of cleaning
  and yearly maintenance needs.

• In the event of accidental damage, artist will repair work,
if desired, on an hourly wage.

Opportunities for Apprenticeship

• Sculpture students may apprentice under the artist
for an hourly wage of $5/hour minus an instruction fee
of $25/month of work. Clients who wish for a "hands on"
approach to their sculpture may apprentice with the hourly wage
being subtracted from the final total. If clients do not wish
for students to work on their projects, they must inform
the artist by the begin date.
