Herbert Haywood Imel collapsed after breakfast May 27, 1979 with a heart attack and never recovered. He is buried in the cemetery on the hill in Ione, Oregon.His wife, Margaret Myrtle Knighten is buried beside him. OBITUARY NOTICE: May 27, 1979 Herbert Haywood Imel, 73, Ione, died May 27 in Heppner. A retired farmer, Mr. Imel was born April 18, 1906 at Oregon City.

Services are Friday at two p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Ione with Dr. Neal L. Chobot officiating. Carl and Betty Marquardt will sing sacred selections, "The Last Mile" and "In the Garden" with accompaniment by Betty Marquardt.

Concluding services and interment will be at Highview Cemetery, Ione.

Pallbearers are Brien Rietmann, Gene Rietmann, Ivan Hartley, Martin Fitzgerald, Nick Civarra and Kevin Imel. Sweeney Mortuary will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, Ione, a daughter Minnie Civarra, Seattle, Washington, two sons, Herbert O. Imel, La Grande andJames Imel, Portland, a sister, Zella Flemmer, Sacramento, Calif, a brother Frank, Portland, seven grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews."

Myrtle Margaret Knighten married Herbert Haywood Imel August 15, 1924 in Oregon City, Oregon. They had three children: Minnie LaVerne, Herbert Orville, and James Marlin. Minnie LaVerne was born at Beavercreek, Oregon, and Herbert Orville andJames Marlin were born in Oregon City. They lived in Oregon City for many years and around 1955 moved to Terrebonne, Oregon where they bought a farm nestled beneath a small mountain. They farmed about 30 acres and eventually sold cinder rockout of the mountain. After the children were grown they bought a Dairy Queen business in Klamath Falls, Oregon where they lived for 10 years. They then bought a Dairy Queen in Bend, Oregon where they stayed for another ten years having sold the Klamath Falls property. They retired to Ione, Oregon where they lived until Herbert passed away in 1979. Myrtle moved to LaGrand, Oregon near her son, Herbert until she passed away in 1990. She is buried next to Herbert in the Ione Cemetery, Ione, Oregon.
