Demons of the Soul: Part I

Kylan walked from Rohan's quarters more confused then he had before entering. He understood now about the agreement his father had with Lady Blackthorn regarding his betrothal to Arista but he had never thought of her that way. Though not his cousin by blood it still somehow seemed odd. “At least I understand Uncle Ian's warnings now”, he thought. Either way any wedding bells were far off if they were to happen at all so he set the thoughts aside as he reached the stables.

This day was like every other had been of late. He rose at the break of dawn and reported for his squire training. And like so many days of late he spent more of his time berating himself because he was not with his knight and more so because nobody even knew Blackhawke's whereabouts. “Some squire I am, barely in his service a week when he disappeared. I should have been with him not practicing duels in the safety of Camelot or BlackHawke Castle. I fight against wooden dummies that do not fight back and he could be facing all manner of beasts bent on doing him in.” His thoughts were brought back into focus as he was laid flat by a glancing blow from his sparring partner. He picked himself up and sighed then saluted his opponent. He left the practice field without a word. The concerned words of the others fading into the wind as his worries consumed him.

It had been many days since he had slept in peace and his studies had suffered as well. He simply could not concentrate on anything but finding BlackHawke. Night found him wandering the halls of Amber unable to find rest his body needed but his mind would not allow. As he walked the halls of the third level he passed his fathers study and stopped, under the door he could see a flicker of light. “Odd, no one comes in here when father is away” he said quietly. Kylan stepped forward opening the door, “Hello?” He peered inside but no one was there, the light he saw came from the candelabra that sat on the desk. He went over to blow out the candles thinking Rohan must have had to come in for some reason and had forgotten them. There were a number of documents on the table as well as a journal in his father's hand. He was about to leave when something caught his eye; in the journal were the words, “Glabrezu” and mention of the dark tower. His curiosity was fueled and he sat down reading over the last two times that the demon had appeared and Blackhawke's life had been in danger.

Many hours past before he finished the passages. Slowly he closed the book his eyes focused on the candles light. As the realization of the true peril BlackHawke was in as well as his father and the others that were trying to find him sunk in he stood and walked from the study. His resolve was even greater then before. He would be going with the others to find BlackHawke no matter the thoughts of his elders. His place was with his knight and that is where he would be. At first light he was off for Camelot to find Lady Xan and hopefully soon to find his Knight.

Demons come in all forms but the most deadly are those of your own soul.
