What: Paris Mt. Sunday RideWhen: Check for Email on Greenville Spinners Yahoo group to confirm we are group riding,or use the route sheet below and ride it yourself!Sunday afternoon 2:00 PM.Where: Bi Lo, 3715 E. North at Haywood Rd. (see map below)Why: Because it's there!Join us and see the Paris Mt. route used during the U.S. Cycling Championships!A ride has been created that starts on Greenville's Eastside. It's called the Paris Mt. Sunday Ride. It is for cyclists of all abilities and is not a race. We want both casual and seasoned cyclists to enjoy the challenge of Paris Mt. located in Greenville, SC. It is the best 18 mile local ride with a little climbing challenge thrown in for fun. Don't be scared, you can do it! None of us will be in a rush and I personally never have a problem riding with the last cyclist/group as I like to ride slow and smell the roses! Helmets required and we follow all the rules of the road.If you live near Greenville you know we have a great little mountain in our backyard. Fact #1: George Hincapie has lived in close proximity of Paris Mt. for many years so he can leave his driveway and be training on it in a moments notice. Fact #2 The U.S. Cycling Championships included Paris Mt. during their annual event. Fact #3 Paris Mt. is considered a monadnock that rises about 1,000 ft from the surrounding land. Our Paris Mt. Ride will start in the Bi Lo parking lot at Vaughn's at E. North St. This is at the intersection of E. North St. and Haywood Rd. A map is below. We plan to hold the ride each Sunday afternoon starting at 2:00 PM, weather permitting and ride leader available. But always check for an email posted on the Greenville Spinners Yahoo group or ride it solo using our route sheet. If it's raining or below 40 degrees we don't ride for sure. The ride is approx 18 miles round trip and takes about two hours for most cyclists. The route is specifically designed to avoid traffic. We go through neighborhoods to reach the base of Paris Mt. We then begin a four mile climb up Altamont Rd. to the summit. One challenge is a short stretch local cyclists call "THE WALL". It's short but very steep at around 18% grade. We will pause at the radio towers on the summit of the mountain to take in a great view of downtown Greenville, Furman University and Table Rock Mt. before the exhilarating ride back down the mountain to return to our start.Note: This event is open to all cyclists. Greenville Spinners club members are covered by supplemental insurance. Other riders ride at your own risk. All riders will need to sign a waiver to officially participate in this event.Click here to view route sheet Paris Mt. Ride Route Sheet
