Training is more important than ever. In the retail world employee turnover is a fact of life. We do regular training sessions to make sure all salespeople know our products and programs better than the competitions. We focus our training not only on products, but on qualifying the customer, identifying their needs, recommending the appropriate product, and most importantly, closing the sale.
For our contracting customers we focus training more on features, benefits and applications. We make sure we know the competitive products as well as we know our own.
In this age of instant communication it is imperative that the dealer receives timely information from the rep regarding new or discontinued products, pricing changes, specials and any other information relevant to his business. We accomplish this through regular broadcast faxing and emails. These tools are used to supplement regular dealer visits.
It is also critical that the rep stay in regular communication with the manufacturer, providing real world feedback from the marketplace.
We call on all Consultants, working to make sure our products are not only specified wherever possible, but also that the appropriate product is specified in each application. We work with dealers on systems design and product recommendations. We regularly go on sales calls with dealers and on demonstrations with Consultants. We conduct regular clinics and workshops to keep our products in front of both the dealers and the end users.
In retail, the product with the best merchandising and best visibility has the best chance for success. We don't just rely on the retailer to merchandise our products. We work with the dealer on product placement and display. We even do in-house P.O.P. and support materials. These methods have proven very successful.
