Hiking Trails to Beach, Golf, & Hills

As briefly described in one of the earlier photos, there is an incredible hiking trail that leads to the town of Avila Beach and Golf Course!  You begin from the East side of our property, meander down through the Blue Heron Preserve, and end up at the golf course bridge.  This view from the top of the trail shows the gradual terrain and the bridge you cross to go to town.  On the right side of the river is the bike path which connects San Luis Obispo to the town of Avila Beach.

Our trail (the grassy slope) empties out onto this bike path directly across from the bridge!  This photo shows the bottom of the trail at the rivers edge, as it connects with the paved bike path from SLO to Avila.  Behind me a few feet is the bridge to the town of Avila and the world-class beach.  The trail was installed at great expense, and is easily walked by most ages and physical abilities.  Evening walks to the beach or town are a pleasure.

This lovely shot is at the 4-way junction of the Golf Cart bridge to Avila Beach (to the left), the bike trail from San Luis Obispo (behind me), the Golf Cart road to the Pro Shop (continuing along the right side of the river), and our strategically placed hiking trail (directly to my right).   Of course you can always drive…!

The popular 18 hole golf course, with pro shops, and restaurant runs along the river to the south of our point and up the canyon, West of our point.   Believe it or not, this river supports quite a population of steel head salmon and many species of birds.  This location is considered excellent for bird watching, the most beautiful being of course the large and majestic Blue Herons.

This shot (taken from further up the hill) shows the set up for one of the Jazz and Blues concerts held several time a year.  It’s a very popular event in Avila Beach.  Our house is on top of the point in the foreground.  All we have to do is go out and sit on the deck to listen to the concerts.   As seen from this photo, the golf course wraps up the canyon floor to the West of our house (see below).

If you like, you can rest from your hike (or park your Golf Cart) here at the Club house.  You can “fuel up”, have lunch, shoot some balls, or just shoot the breeze with neighbors.  If you want you can continue your hike (or drive…) up the canyon and come back to the house from the back side.   It’s always nice to get back to the quiet hacienda after a stressful day at the beach or on the greens… Life is very good up on the knoll…!
