Master Bedroom and Bath...

The master bedroom with its vaulted ceiling, cantilevered balcony, and windows, affords just as commanding views of the ocean as does the main balcony.  However, because of the room’s western orientation, it also has beautiful views of the rolling hills, grasslands, Spanish oaks, and range cattle.  Watching the rancher round up cattle on horse back, then turning to view the vacationers on Avila Beach, is a unique mix of cultures, topography, and scenery not found in many other locations.   By the way, sunsets from the room are awesome.

The mood of the room changes dramatically in the evening.  The twinkling lights from the pier as waves roll up and down, are seen from the pillows of our bed through the open door of the bedroom balcony.  This was not by accident.  Long before the first batch of concrete hit the ground the placement of each window throughout the house, was painstakingly established (relative to sun, trees, and view corridors).  Our personal design criteria called for retaining all of the ancient oaks on this knoll.

Looking westerly, the boats moored in Port San Luis can be seen from the bedroom.  During periods of high swells, watching the waves from the open ocean crashing over the breakwater is addicting.

This is the view seen from the bedroom balcony.  Commercial fishing boats now share the bay with recreational water craft of all sizes as seen here on a typical afternoon.  The recent establishment of the Central Coast as a world class wine region is now drawing many visitors to the area (by water and by land…).  Port San Luis is the only deep water harbor between Los Angeles and San Francisco.  All of this can be seen from the comfort of your bedroom.

No cattle visible in this shot from the bedroom window, but the trimmed grass attest to their constant presence.  Between the distant mooing of the cattle and the occasional barking of the harbor seals, you find yourself humming strange melodies somewhere between Hank Williams… and the Beach Boys…

This photo of the master bathroom counter shows the bright and cheerful colors that abound around the house.  The matching Talavera bowls give a wonderful contrast to the green.  The shower as seen in the mirror reflection, is not finished but will be tiled with the same green tile.  The shower has a classical arched opening as seen in many old Spanish homes from the 20’s.  Once again, even the bathroom has awesome views, just as attractive as the one above.
