Midi music     "Autumn Leaves"

*THE MUSINGS AND VERSE OF JOHN P. HOOPER AND OTHERS*

This is a poem and picture of my old golfing and fishing buddy, Chuck Kaplan, on right. He could beat me at both but to make me feel good he would let me win, once in a while. The fish are Chinook Salmon, also know as King Salmon, taken from Grand Traverse Bay near Suttons Bay, Michigan. They weighed in at 20 and 25 pounds, respectively. We golfed and fished every day of the week except Sundays. The memories will always be with me....JH

* CHINOOK *

When autumn hardwoods breathe their fire
Ignited by Octobers sun
Consumed by nature's fatal urge
The mighty Chinook run.

On singing reel, we feel his surge
This wild unconquered one
We revel in the power unleashed
When mighty Chinook run.

A frenzied leap! The line is torn!
His hard-earned freedom won
An odyssey resumed to join
The mighty Chinook run.

And now he lies in rotting flesh
With procreation done
In dying, he will live again
When mighty Chinook run.

To each, as to the silvered King
An ordered end must come.
But you and I shall meet again
                When mighty Chinook run..........JH
