Cutter
Introducing Daisy
Cutter, 'super group' extraordinaire. This amazing new group will
have its debut performance at Summerfest. Don't miss their
performance on Saturday.
The band includes:
Greg
Anderson, multi-instrumentalist who co-founded the acclaimed Celtic-fusion
group Whirligigand and is currently the guitarist with The Eileen Ivers
Band. As a multi-instrumentalist playing in a wide variety of musical
genres, Greg has performed and recorded with a long list of artists in the folk
and traditional music worlds, as well as with many in the fields of rock, jazz,
and contemporary music, including Eileen Ivers, Cathie Ryan, Susan McKeown,
Richard Shindell, Tommy Sands, Seán Tyrrell, Steeleye Span fiddler Peter
Knight, folk-blues singer Dave Moore, and button accordion greats James Keane
and John Whelan. His contributions can be heard on many of these artists' recent
CDs. He has been the bassist for 15 years with the avant-rock band Doctor Nerve,
with whom he has recorded 8 albums. He played with the progressive Klezmer-jazz
group The Klezmatics, and accompanied them on tours of Itzhak Perlman's In The
Fiddler’s House. In the 1980s, he worked with renowned Indian violinist L.
Shanker of Shakti, and also played bass and keyboards in the seminal post-punk
new wave band ibm. Most recently, he led the neo-Celtic fusion group Whirligig.
Also a much sought after producer and arranger, Greg is considered to be an
expert at blending traditional music with contemporary sounds and production
values.

Blue is the Philadelphia based duo of David and Adrian Mowry.
Father and son have been performing their music strongly rooted in
the blues, up and down the eastern seaboard. Bridging many gaps in
American music, their soulful traditional and contemporary style
mesh into an innovative and authentic sound. Although blues is a
staple in their repertoire, they also base their love in music
from Folk, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Country, and Bluegrass. All these
interests and influences come out in their original songwriting in
a unique way. A handsome range of instruments like six and
twelve string guitars, slide guitar, Dobro and the two soulful
voices blend together like only family members can, affecting
audiences wherever they perform.
A
versatile artist overflowing with energy and a contagious joie de vivre, Benoit
Bourque has been winning the public over more than 25 years. Charismatic,
exuberant, warm, cranky, limber, band’s sparkplug are a few words to describe
him. A musician, dancer, singer and caller, he has been a member of different
bands with whom he toured extensively in North America and in Europe : Éritage,
Ad Vielle que Pourra, Hommage à Alfred Montmarquette, Bourque et Bernard,
Matapat, Le Vent du Nord, are all bands that enjoyed his talents and his
exceptional charisma.
Singer,
songwriter and fiddler, Laura Cortese lights up the stage with a radiating
smile, dazzling musicianship and uninhibited delight. She deftly strums,
plucks and chops her fiddle behind her raw and rootsy voice. Forgoing the guitar
and bass of the traditional rock band, Cortese tours nationally with indie
rock/folk drummer Neil Cleary (Annie Hayden, The Essex Green, Erin McKeown). On
her latest release, even the lost creek

jazz. He is also an active composer/musician in a number of other genre-hopping
bands, including The Klezmatics, Les Misérables Brass Band, Orange Then Blue,
Whirligig, as well as his own bands The Paradox Trio and Ballin’ The Jack. He
also led the Celtic-fusion group Smash The Windows, has performed in Riverdance
on Broadway, and has worked with such varied artists Charlie Haden, David Byrne,
Oliver Lake, Séamus Egan, and Itzhak Perlman, among many others.

poets among his friends and admirers, as well as fellow freethinkers as various

Finest
Kind's vocal arrangements are a creative tour de force.
Tradition-based yet curiously modern, the trio's harmonies are
an enchanting feast of opulent chords and ever changing
textures. The trio's amazing vocal blend has been called
"molecular bonding" by one reviewer: "Any
closer," he says, "and they wouldn't be allowed to do
it in public." The variety of these individual
musical backgrounds makes for one of the distinctions of a
Finest Kind performance -- the exhilarating mix of repertoire.
British, American, Irish, and Canadian traditional ballads keep
company with gospel rousers, drinking songs, sea shanties, and
pop oldies. The timeless works of the Carter Family, the Copper

by Ian or Shelley. Unencumbered by allegiances to any one style,
Finest Kind presents the hand-picked best of many genres, and
keeps audiences wondering just what delight they'll hear next.
A
professional guitarist from the age of 16, Raymond Gonzalez has performed in
styles from classical to folk, blues and jazz to rock, traveling extensively
from California to New England . Raymond began composing for solo guitar, piano,
and small ensembles at a very young age, which ultimately lead to a Master's
degree in Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music. He has written
and produced five albums of original songs and solo guitar pieces. Curly-Headed
Humans (1989), and On the Water (1993) were both recorded with Amy
Malkoff ; since going solo, Raymond has recorded Thieves (1997), the
company you keep (1999), and Moonlight and Sage (2004). A song of
Raymond's was selected for When October Goes, a compilation released on
Rounder Records. He also continues to compose and perform in the classical and
modern music arena, recently premiering a piece for guitar and flute at the
first University of Massachusetts - Boston Faculty Composer's Forum. With the
release of his latest CD, Raymond has returned with new enthusiasm to the
acoustic stage after a hiatus of some years spent teaching and composing.

David
Jacobs-Strain emerged from the rain soaked mountains of Western Oregon storming
the festival circuit as a dynamic blues prodigy. Like a diesel powerhouse of raw
energy, David speeds across the landscape of the Country Blues to the earthbound
grooves of the Mississippi Delta, with his driving slide guitar and fervent
vocals. His passion stretches the limits of the blues with blazing guitar
breakdowns that verge on psychedelia and highlight his intimate knowledge of the
fretboard.
David's singing and steel-string guitar artistry (finger-picking and
bottleneck-slide), receive critical praise, but what sets David apart is the
moral conviction and emotional depth of his performance. His music
resonates with the old, reflecting his early preoccupation with acoustic country
blues, and at the same time is decidedly contemporary, and innovative.
David,
originally from England and now living in Leonia, New Jersey, gateway to the
golden west, has a large repertoire of folksong from both sides of the Atlantic.
He has performed in North America, Britain, Australia and Europe, singing at
festivals, concert halls, clubs, maritime museums and colleges, presenting songs
from the great days of sail, Music Hall favorites, traditional ballads, and the
works of contemporary writers. David sings both a capella and with guitar
accompaniment and involves his audience in refrains and choruses ranging from
boisterous to sentimental. David has played feature roles in many
theatrical productions to favorable critical reviews, and has performed across
the USA as the featured artist in The Victorian Revels, a production
based on traditions of the Winter Solstice conceived and produced by Revels Inc.
He has played the part of the great sailor Joshua Slocum in Sailing Alone,
with words and music by Dillon Bustin, and has sung and provided narration for a
number of Public Broadcasting productions, including A Prairie Home
Companion, Africans in America and Simple Gifts.
Even
after ten years, over a thousand gigs and 500,000 miles of touring as a married,
music-making couple, singer-guitarists Pete and Maura Kennedy haven’t killed
each other. The duo savors each instant in life and in each other’s company,
and it shows in their music. The Kennedys have been charming audiences, record
buyers and critics for the past decade with their exuberant mixture of folk,
rock, country, pop and their own brand of secular gospel, a philosophical depth
in their lyrics, and joyful, kinetic performances and recordings.
Through
inventive arrangements and wildly creative instrumentation, the Guy Mendilow
Band transports audiences on a vibrant journey to the places Mendilow has called
home —from Israel and South Africa to Mexico, Brazil and the United States —
as well as a few destinations that exist only in the group's imagination.
An
exciting duo that combines the talents of two of contemporary music's most
gifted musicians.
Sara is an award-winning fiddler, singer, and tunesmith performs various
roots, bluegrass, Celtic, and Appalachian music. She has spent the past few
years touring and recording with The Cathie Ryan Band, and previously played
with NY Irish-newgrass band The McKrells. She has recorded with numerous
artists, and both her fiddle and voice can be heard on the forthcoming Richard
Shindell CD, "South of Delia."
Greg is a multi-instrumentalist who co-founded the acclaimed Celtic-fusion group
Whirligig. Currently the guitarist with The Eileen Ivers Band, he has also
performed and recorded with many diverse international artists, including Susan
McKeown, The Klezmatics, Cathie Ryan, and Doctor Nerve, among others.
Playing a vibrant mix of contemporary and traditional songs and tunes from
across the musical spectrum, Sara and Greg's music incorporates eclectic flavors
from other countries and planets, as well as soulful compositions of their own.
They have earned accolades for their fresh interpretations of music from many
different genres, and for crisscrossing stylistic boundaries - combining a firm
grounding in a wide range of folk forms with a rich palette of modern and world
music influences.
One
of the most influential fiddlers of his generation, Bruce Molsky is also a
remarkable guitarist, banjoist, and singer. An intimate, relaxed performance
style engages and illuminates listeners. Bruce's high-spirited music melds the
old mountain sounds of Appalachia, the power of blues, and intricacies of
traditional African music with Scandinavian and Balkan impressions.
Alone or
with fellow musicians; guitar, fiddle, or banjo in hand, Bruce Molsky has been
exploring traditional music from an astonishingly broad range of cultures over
the past two decades – synthesizing them and refracting them through his own
evolving sensibilities to the point where the sources of his inspiration
transform themselves into a sound that is uniquely his. While most identified
with traditional American old-time music, Molsky’s influences range from the
Appalachian soul of Tommy Jarrell to Delta blues; from the haunting modal
strains of Irish music to the rhythmically nimble music of Eastern Europe.

A
songwriter and performer from Nottingham, England with a wealth of great songs
and stage presence. His show is dynamic and intense as well as approachable and
fun loving. He seriously believes there are 'Six billion eccentrics' in the
world and that particular song is fast becoming a signature tune for people
everywhere. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe he has entertained
all over the globe with his unique and involving style of songwriting and
traditional singing. Pete sings from the heart, delivering songs that tell
compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique
perspective. With a passionate, strong voice and strident guitar style,
traditional songs often rub shoulders with Pete's current writing with
remarkable ease. His songs are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and
social comment, wrapping their way around the folk tradition. Pete has recorded
five solo albums of original material and a project
album of traditional songs entitled 'Trespass'.
Two
principle and influential figures in the British folk-roots scene, who have seen
action in Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull, The Dylan Project, Little Johnny
England and more, join forces. PJ Wright has impeccable credentials
... most recently as lead vocalist and guitarist with ace folk-rock outfit
Little Johnny England and The Dylan Project. He has teamed up with Dave
Pegg who is known mostly as Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull's bass
player. With PJ, Dave shows off his mandolin and bouzouki skills. PJ
has toured the States with Little Johnny England a number of times and Pegg has
toured with both Fairport and Jethro Tull. They have also toured
throughout Europe and most of the rest of the world playing major venues and
festivals.
Great
vocals and instrumental work accompanied by witty banter and on-stage presence. Their
musicianship is flawless. And their voices ... their harmonies sound like
they've been singing together for years. Their energy is intoxicating.
With gorgeous harmonies on original work and tasteful covers, plus slide guitar

the singer/songwriter world.John
is a leading exponent of both Anglo and English concertina, as well as being a
fine banjo and guitar player. For more than 35 years, John has been
known for his performances with Tony Barrand.
They specialize in programs documenting the work of some of the major
folksong collectors. They were invited, by the curator of an art exhibion of the
works of Maxfield Parrish, to prepare a program of songs complementing the
exhibit; they presented this at several of the museums hosting the collection,
includingh the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
In their many years together as a professional team, Roberts and Barrand
have recorded with a number of companies including Swallowtail, Front Hall,
Folk-Legacy, and National Geographic. John also performs solo and
with Ye Mariners All, a trio who sing and play the music of the sea with a
spiritual home port of Salem, Massachusetts.
Born,
raised, and currently residing in New Bedford, Massachusetts, vocal artist
“Candida Rose” captivates her audiences with the golden aura of her radiant
presence and stirs them with a uniquely compelling voice that combines the
overtones and undertones of jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel with just the
right touch of international spice.
An
acoustic duo from NY State with gentle, tight harmony singing on classic
and original folk and pop songs, Mike & Ruthy accompany each other
on guitar, fiddle, banjo, ukulele, and the occasional harmonica or
glockenspiel. Since first meeting in 1998, their writing, singing
and musicianship have grown to greatness. For 7 years they have
toured the world in the folk-rock string band, The Mammals, developing a
comfortable stage presence and a vibrant delivery.
Shindell’s
songwriting is truly eclectic, ranging from lighthearted ballads and adulterous
love songs, to dirges and diatribes that skillfully skewer politics, prejudice,
war and religion. He has a unique ability to morph into the soul of the many and
varied personalities he casts as narrators in certain songs--songs that are
veritable novellas framed in haunting acoustic melodies, sometimes including
cryptic, revelations through the eyes of a woman. An expatriate New Yorker
now living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Richard Shindell is a meticulous
craftsman of song whose five studio albums and one live recording have been
revered by critics and fans alike. Innovative, original and occasionally
spiritual, Shindell’s songs weave tales that interchangeably champion the
downtrodden, exalt the disaffected or wax empathetic to those lost to
society’s fringes. From his first record, Sparrow’s Point (1992) to the
newest album Vuelta (2004), Shindell has demonstrated a penchant for songwriting
at once passionate and profound. His songs are often slowly and painstakingly
crafted until honed to perfection. Conversely, he is also capable of writing
tunes that are simply clever and amusing.
Some
artists continually reinvent themselves; others identify their muse early on and
spend their careers single-mindedly pursuing it, remaining recognizably
themselves through a career-long process of refinement, growth and discovery.
When asked about his career-long predilection for mixing in outside songs with
his own material, Smither says, "This may sound a little self-important,
maybe, but I like to hold these things up and say, 'These are the people I
consider my peers, and my stuff stands up to this. This is what I do, and this
is where I come from." When

constantly learning and adding to his repertoire of songs. He makes his living
performing music. His bookings include coffeehouses and festivals as well as his
"Music for the Ages" where he entertains the elderly in nursing homes,
adult living facilities, hospitals, senior centers, clubs and organizations. Art
is truly one of New Bedford's gems.

Hands and is the founding member and anchor musician of the popular folk/rock
band, Little Johnny England. He is also in great demand as a session

With
bluesy fingerpicking, soaring bottleneck slide, and swinging flatpicking, Brooks
Williams' music is rooted in the blues and is as fresh and original as any music
you are likely to hear. His unique combination of traditional and original
music inspired Dirty Linen magazine to call Brooks one of "America's

throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland. He
has played the major festivals including Newport, Belfast, Winnipeg and of
