Connector Protective Covers

The most common field failure for the BFD is caused by accidentally jamming the 2-pin power cable into the adjacent 3-pin "DATA IN" receptacle on the receiver.  If inserted hard enough the pins in the plug can deflect and make contact, which damages the receiver microcontroller and RF module requiring them to be replaced before the unit will function.  It has even happened that the power plug was jammed into the 4-pin "POT" connector hard enough to make contact and melt an IC chip inside the receiver.

In order to prevent this, all units are now being shipped with flexible vinyl caps installed over the "DATA IN" and "POT" connectors.  These caps are easily removable when access to the connectors is required.  These caps are available to prior BFD owners at no charge from BarTech Engineering.  Owners in the United states may obtain them by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the address listed below.  Note that the caps render the envelope non-machinable  which adds a surcharge of $0.12 to the cost of postage, bringing it to $0.49.  Owners outside the US should contact BarTech Engineering to arrange shipping.
