Prop Optimizer (tm) Strength and Pitch Check
This program finds minimum blade thickness from hub to tip for the user
specified strength and tip deflection criteria which not only helps insure
safer propellers but improves their efficiency. It also checks to verify
that the entire blade pitch distribution is correctly set. Many
manufacturers severly depitch the prop near the hub in a mistaken effort
to improve performance. This changes the aerodynamics over the entire
blade not just at the hub and some props have shown reverse thrust on up
to 50% of the blade! The correct pitch distribution angles must be carried
all the way into the hub to provide maximum efficiency. It is ideal for
checking any existing propeller design and is the simplest and easiest to
use of the Prop Optimizer programs. It should be part of every
manufacturer's design process.
The program provides a choice of various wood or composite materials or
input user defined material properties. Determines bending moment,
stiffness, deflection and margin of safety. Sizes blade thickness for
minimum weight and minimum required safety margin. This is the same
routine used in the Advanced and
PRO programs and allows a simpler separate
strength and pitch distribution analysis of existing propeller designs.
