I spoke this morning with Rep. L'Heureux.
The sponsors do not want to amend SB268 for a "small thing" like a
change of wording. Even to accomodate homeschoolers, and even though their
intent is to not affect homeschoolers. The barrier is the amount of work that
would have to be done to make the change. If the bill goes to a committee of
conference, as he thinks it is likely to do, he believes that people will be
open to changing the language at that point. He also said that (assuming he is
reelected) he would be open to a bill next year to make the sorts of changes I
have asked for.
I told him that I have been busy documenting as many instances as I can where
legislators state that homeschoolers are not being affected. He said he knew we
were recording the executive session, and that's why he stated out loud during
his remarks that homeschoolers are not affected, so that it would be on record
for posterity.
