A Little Bit About Us.....

HISTORY

We were founded on May 20, 1989. Congregation Beth Shalom is the only organized Jewish congregation in East Alabama. Our synagogue building was dedicated on November 15, 1992 and renovated in 2006.

BACKGROUND

Our congregation is lay-led, and we are affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism. However, we support the traditions of all who are members of the East Central Alabama Jewish community. Our congregation strives to bring these traditions to the practice of secular living in a small, Southern community. Our desire is to provide religious and social experiences within a modern and ever-changing context.

MEMBERSHIP

Our membership includes residents of Auburn-Opelika, and the surrounding communities. We are a young congregation with families with children, couples, singles, and students of Auburn University.

GROUPS WE SUPPORT

Beth Shalom participates in local ecumenical efforts and supports the Community Market and Food Bank of East Alabama and the LifeSouth and Red Cross community blood banks.

We are a member of the Jewish Federation of Central Alabama and support their activities, and we promote donating to the United Jewish Campaign (UJC). We have a close relationship with the Auburn Jewish Student Organization (Hillel) on the Auburn University campus. All our services and events are open and free to AJSO students, including High Holy day services. If you are an Auburn student and interested in AJSO please contact the faculty Hillel advisor, Rob Kulik.
