Blog: July 2013

July 4, 2013. The team wore this year's version of the Stars and Stripes cap today. Could have been worse... Holliday used a Gwynn Marucci bat. It's not the first time he's used that model this season, but this bat was a contract (signature) model. Can't tell whose bat it was... Finally got a good look at Jon Jay's Nnywg-finished Marucci bat. It's a Tony Cruz model.

July 5, 2013. Holliday was back to using Old Hickory tonight. It appears the company has a new logo that doesn't include the diamond.

July 9, 2013. Ty Wigginton was released today and Rob Johnson was called up from Memphis. When Johnson makes an appearance -- if he makes one -- he'll be the first Redbird to wear #32 since the late Josh Hancock... Jon Jay used a natural Rawlings bat tonight.

July 12, 2013. The #32 is officially off the shelf for the first time since 2007 because Rob Johnson pinch hit today. Makes me wonder, if Johnson never gets another AB for the Cardinals, which backup catcher wearing #32 will be remembered for having the better Cardinals career: Johnson, 1-1 with a triple; or Keith McDonald, 3-9 with 3 HRs... Johnson swung a natural Marucci.

July 14, 2013. Trevor Rosenthal had his first plate appearance of the season tonight. He used Adam Wainwright's unfinished ash Louisville Slugger.

July 16, 2013. During tonight's All-Star Game, both Matt Carpenter (Gwynn Marucci) and Allen Craig (Gwynn Rawlings) used their regular bats. Yadier Molina used a Nnywg Marucci, as usual, but it had a red logo. I'm guessing it was made specially for the game. Carlos Beltran used two bats, a new Nnywg Marucci (possibly like Yadi's, but I didn't get a good look at the logo) and a black Louisville Slugger... The players looked to have new, red cleats. But, it was hard to tell because the Cardinals always wear red shoes.

July 19, 2013. Noticed Yadi using the red-labeled Marucci bat again a couple times tonight... The Authentics Store had some new lumber, but most of it sold before I arrived. I missed bats used by Molina, Carpenter, Miller, Adams (all apparently bought by the same guy), Garcia and Rasmus (yes, Rasmus). There was a Beltran left, so I grabbed it. He broke it on an RBI-single against Bud Norris just 10 days ago.

July 20, 2013. Brock Peterson made his MLB debut wearing the Saturday alternate uniform #41, digits that were donned earlier this season by Mitchell Boggs. He swung a black Tucci Lumber bat.

July 21, 2013. Adams swung a Walker Marucci.

July 22, 2013. Adams swung a Gwynn Marucci.

July 24, 2013. Adams swung a black Sam Bat. He's all over the place recently, in terms of bat use... Cruz used a black LS M9. As the new LS logo becomes more pervasive, the M9 and old-logo ash bats are tougher to spot. Robinson's and Wainwright's natural ash LS bats still feature the old logo.

July 29, 2013. I noticed Adams' Marucci bat has a red logo like the one Yadi swung at the All-Star Game (and after). I have to assume that's a new thing for Marucci instead of a special logo for Yadi's ASG bat... Johnson swung a Nnywg-finished Marucci.

July 30, 2013. This might be the last time I have to type these letters in this sequence -- Rzepczynski. Of course, I still need one of his bats for my 2011 collection, so although he's gone, he'll not be forgotten.

July 31, 2013. Freese used a black Tucci Lumber bat tonight. Pretty sure it's Brock Peterson's bat.
