Eckstein, Edmonds, Spiezio use pink bats. Three Cardinals swung pink bats on Mother's Day to raise breast cancer awareness. David Eckstein and Scott Spiezio used their pink bats during their first plate appearances only. Edmonds used a regular black bat his first time up, but used the pink bat for his next four plate appearances (in which he drew a walk and singled three times). Jim's bat had his trademark white spiral tape job, but I couldn't tell what was on the barrel. Eckstein's bat had his mom's name (Patricia Eckstein) under his signature. Spiezio's bat had "St. Louis Cardinals" under his name. A clubhouse source tells me that Gary Bennett also had a pink bat, but Bennett did not see action during the game. I also was told that Pujols had a pink X-Bat in his locker. The bat was labeled "Breast Cancer Awareness" and dated, in addition to having Albert's name on the barrel. Albert did not use the bat during the game. According to published reports, each player was supposed to receive two pink bats from Hillerich & Bradsby, one to use and be auctioned on MLB.com, the other to be presented to their mothers. To date, none of the Cardinals pink bats has been offered at auction.
