Pujols bat use during 2006. With the regular season ended, we now can take a complete look at Albert's bats during the season. I'm struck by a few things in particular. For example, Albert's favorite bat in 2005 (and for most of his career) was the Louisville Slugger. He took one to the plate 48 percent of the time last year. This year, it was about 6.5 percent.

It's also interesting how he tended to switch models this season. In 2005, he didn't favor a particular brand for long stretches of time. But this year, he'd stick with certain brands for several games in a row. For example, he used a natural Sam Bat almost exclusively from April 10 to May 17. From May 19 until going on the DL in June, a natural X-Bat was his stick of choice. And from August 30 until the end of the year, the black Sam Bat was almost all he used. He did display some variety in 2006, though -- for the first time, he has used Max Bats (Aramis Ramirez model) and a Sam bat with a Galen handle and a natural barrel.
