Mark from Westerleigh e-mailed me to to let everyone know "Westerleigh Aquarium has been growing and shipping Aquatic Plants since 1954 and have always had a "SATISFACTION GUARANTEED" policy." A H Supply- Aquarium Hobbyist Supply-Compact fluorescent lighting kits, VERY REASONABLY PRICED for the diy'rs. Check out this page, I have not seen kits like these at anywhere near the price!!!!!

Update 8/22/99: I have just ordered the supplies to retro-fit my 48" Perfecto Double Bright strip light with 2 X 55 watt compact flourescent lights. The owner, Kim Bryant, was very helpful on the telephone and the web site is now set up for on-line ordering, including credit card orders! There are simple instructions for building your own strip lights available from Kim also.

Update-8/25/99: My kits shipped on Monday and I had them on Wednesday! It took 1 1/2 hours to retrofit my Perfecto Double Bright to 2 X 55 watt CF's. Very easy install and Kim was available to answer the few questions I had after I received the parts. I am VERY PLEASED with this and I now have 220 watts of CF lighting on my 55gal. tank!!!! Highly recomended!!

Aquatics Unlimited-Online store no longer sells plants and fishs mailorder, the web site says "We're sorry, but effective March 1, 2000, we will no longer be shipping livestock, including fish or plants. Due to high fees and unreliable service from the Post Office, we have found this service to be unprofitable." I guess they must have had a bad experience as there are many other places that have no problem doing this type of business. They do still offer a good selection of plant supplies though.

The following are links primarily to information about buying, raising and breeding freshwater aquarium fish and related supplies. There are more and more people selling hard to get fish through mailorder and for many of us it is the only to get certain species. I have received several shipments of fish sent from California to Connecticut through the US Mail and had very good results. I would not hesitate to get fish this way as long as the temperatures in your area are moderate !

Tenecor Aquariums-One of the few places I have found that will sell tanks mail order. Sizes from 55 to 300 gallons available, many shapes also.

T.F.H. Publications       -Internet site of the Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine's parent company. One of the best sources for books and magazines on pets of all kinds.                  

That Pet Place -Amazing selection of quality supplies, they also sell live plants mail order! I wish I lived closer to their retail  store.

Trilby Tropicals  -New site I found, not fully illustrated and still a work in progress (as of 1/23/00), but shows some promise. They have a $400.00 fish for sale here! Looks like they will be offering plants and accessories. Check it out! 

Tropical Fish Store.Com       -One of the few places I've seen advertise that actually sells tanks online!  The site is not complete ( as of 3/12/00) but it looks very promising as another supplier mail order source!       

Uncle Ned's Fish Factory-This is a new link to an updated and expanded site that is a work in progress. I've been to the store (2 1/2 hour ride from my house and worth every minute). Lots of hard to find fish and supplies, fresh and saltwater and they will ship to you. The only place I have found Amano (Cardina  Japonica) shrimp. Give them a call they are very friendly and helpful. I give this place 4  stars for  their selection and knowledge!  

Vortex Products   -Manufacturer of a great diatom filter. New site still under construction (as of 2/6/00)

World Wide Pet Supply -A retail/mailorder company offering live freshwater plants and supplies on line . The retail  location is only about 30 minutes from my house .

11/23/00 Update: My last visit to the retail end of this operation was VERY DISAPOINTING....the place is a mess..almost no livestock....drygood selection is pathetic...at best ...unless you want some $.99 cat and dog toys. Maybe they have a warehouse somewhere that they ship their mail order from... but I would call them to have them check stock on anything you may want to buy because if their retail operation is any indication of what they stock you will be very disapointed....BEWARE!
