Emergency Shelter FAQs

What is the shelter like? Will my children be comfortable?
The shelter is a Victorian house located in a residential neighborhood in Eau Claire. Every attempt is made to provide each person/family with privacy and adequate space. If you have children, your family will most likely share one large bedroom with enough beds and cribs for each of you. There is a TV room, a kitchen, a dining room/play room, and a front room that families share. There is also private outdoor space, with play equipment for children. Staff members are available at the shelter 24 hours a day.
Is the shelter safe -- what if the offender finds me?
Security is a primary concern of staff, but kept “user-friendly” for the families that are staying in shelter. Most clients remain unaware of the security cameras around the perimeter of the building, or other security measures that are in place. Exterior doors are locked at all times. The shelter is close to the Eau Claire Police Department, and patrol cars are frequently in the area. If you have special security concerns, please discuss them with staff. We can find a solution together.
I have no money, how can I provide essential items for my family?
There are no charges or fees for emergency shelter. Food to make nutritious meals is always available, with clothing, toiletries and other items provided through donations from community members.
