I hope that you will have a good time

Humphrey is thirsty. Peanuts always make her thirsty, and last
night she ate lots of peanuts. And lots of popcorn. That made her even more
thirsty.
The movie made her thirsty, too. It had pictures of sand and desert, and
people riding camels. Dry, dry, dry. Humphrey is glad she's not a camel.
Last night was the first time Humphrey went to the movies. She'd always heard so
much about them, but she'd never seen one. She decided it was time to watch a
movie, so she went downtown to the theater. The man at the cash register looked
surprised when Humphrey pushed money through the ticket window.
"Ummm," the man said.
"I'd like to see a movie," Humphrey said.
"Ummm," the man said.
"I'd like to see The Lion King," said Humphrey.
The man looked at Humphrey and blinked his eyes.
"Ummm," he said.
"And I'd like some peanuts," said Humphrey.
"I'm sorry," the man said. "But you won't fit through the door into the
theater."
Humphrey looked at the door.
"That's true," Humphrey said.
The man pointed down the street.
"On the edge of town there's a drive-in theater," he said. "And they sell
peanuts at the snack bar."
"Do you know what movie they're showing?" asked Humphrey.
The man reached under the ticket counter and pulled out a newspaper. He paged
through the paper for a moment, and then he looked back at Humphrey.
"They're showing Lawrence of Arabia," he said.
Humphrey raised her eyebrows.
"Is that like The Lion King?" she asked.
The man shook his head.
"Not really," he said. "It's an old movie. It's about guys in the desert.
They ride camels."
"Ummm," said Humphrey.
"I think you'll like it," said the man. "There's a great scene where a kid
drinks lemonade."
"I like lemonade," said Humphrey. "Thanks."
"I hope that you will have a good time," the man said.
And Humphrey did have a good time. She stood next to a van. Mason and Laynie and
Reece were in the van with their mom and dad. Mason gave Humphrey some peanuts.
Laynie went to the snack bar and bought Humphrey some popcorn.
Humphrey ate the peanuts and popcorn. And she liked the scene about the
lemonade, even though it made her thirsty.
After the movie, Mason patted Humphrey on the trunk.
"We're going home now," he said. "It was nice to meet you."
"It was nice to meet you," said Humphrey. "I hope that you will have a good time."
