This 1969 Q-code Mustang Mach 1 was originally built in Metuchen, New Jersey and sold in North Carolina, where it remained until being purchased by Signature Auto Collection in Columbus, OH. I found it on the Internet, where Signature Auto was advertising it for sale as a project car, and purchased it in March, 2000. The original intent was to restore this car as a very nice driver, so I made the decision to change the color from the original Black Jade to Raven Black. A few other minor modifications followed, such as replacing the non-original carburetor with an Edelbrock 750. New Magnum 500 wheels were purchased to replace the tired set of Magnum's already on the car. I also decided to leave the Hurst shifter in place rather than replace it with an original style. In all other respects, however, the goal was a first-rate restoration. When the car emerged from the paint shop (D.C.'s Auto Restoration in Uxbridge, MA) in February 2001, it became apparent that the end result had the potential to be far better than originally expected, so borderline components that had been slated to go back on the car were replaced with new reproduction or original parts. The end result is what you see here. For pictures of the restoration in process, click here. For more pictures of the finished car, click on the provided links (these are larger, higher-quality pictures so please be patient while they load): In August of 2001, this car was sold to a good home on the South Shore near Boston, Massachusetts. In December of 2003, it was in the hands of a Midwestern dealer, who sold it on eBay for $40K. |
