For those unfamiliar with the name Walter Mitty, this is a page devoted to dreams.  Some dreams are beyond reach, others briefly enjoyed, still others realized and held closely.  This page is about the first kind, the would-be gladiator in all of us.  

If you are a driving enthusiast, this is a must-do. The car above is a photo car.  The picture below was snapped by son as I was returning to the pit after 9 laps around the track.

 The Richard Petty Driving Experience is available at a variety of racetracks around the country.  I got to experience 9 laps behind the wheel of a NASCAR race car while on a family vacation at Walt Disney World.

You'll follow a qualified NASCAR driver who will set the pace.  As long as you stick with him at the proper spacing, he'll let you drive as fast as the limit  for the particular track you're on allows.

For those of us who will never get to experience the thrill of high-speed oval combat, this is the next best thing.
