"Cheshire Cat" Restoration

Home | Got Aways

March 2002 - Disassembly begins.  I have begun removing the interior and cleaning the floors for eventual floor pan replacement. Both front and rear drivers side floor pans have rust-through as does the passenger front.  That's the bad news.  The good news is that much of this car has never been touched.  I found the build sheet and vinyl top travellers tucked under the carpet.  The wiring is in great shape with no splices or modifications found thus far.  Even the door panel inner insulation has never been touched.
This car has spent the past 25 years parked in the previous owners garage.  Unfortunately, rust had begun its work and the floors are now rusted through, except for the passenger rear.
This door panel is indicative of the condition of the rest of the interior, which is all original and intact. The front seats will need to be reupholstered, but the rear seat, the door panels, and the rear quarter inserts are all in great shape and can be restored.
October 2003 - The Cougar is now in the hands of D.C.'s Auto Restoration in Uxbridge, MA, where it has been undergoing a full restoration since May.
