Christians in Government

Since 1991, Richard has been a key supporter in encouraging church and government teamwork. This has been done through pastoral and government heart to heart discussions regarding issues affecting families and the nation of Belize.

In 1993, Richard saw a need for church and Government to have open discussion regarding the best ways to address the needs affecting the nation of Belize from a Christian perspective.

This has been a difficult task due to the mind set of the Christian community who often feel that Christians should not be in politics. However, My Refuge believes the lack of Christians in government results in a situation where ungodly men are making decisions based on popularity versus moral values. In March 2004, Richard felt the Lord moving him towards government influence from a local level. An election was held in March, 2004 where Richard was elected over six other candidates for the position of Chairman of Roaring Creek Village.

Positive influence of a Christian that automatically occurs as a result of a man of God in authority includes: Moral values, accountability, integrity, and promotion of family values. In additional, political differences are disarmed producing an environment for true community development benefiting all members of the village. These foundational values releases the blessings of Christ as we acknowledge His supremacy as Lord over true governance.

Opportunities available for community development for a Christian perspective include; Children ministry, elderly support, healthcare, family ministry, security, business development, and youth focus on passion for purity.
