Weaning
After about a week in the weaning cage, the babies usually are eating by themselves, and are ready to graduate to the young bird section of the loft. Here they are placed with their older siblings and are watched carefully to be sure they continue to get enough nourishment to sustain themselves. In the young bird section of the loft, the birds are able to excercise, bathe, and get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. The young birds are usually kept about one year in order to fully mature before the selection process determines which ones will remain as future breeders.
