From the Burning Man Festival, 2000A syllabus is an overview of a class (as opposed to a silly bus, which is what they drive around in on "The Partridge Family.) This page breaks down the entire course into weeks, so you can always check to see what we will be doing next. Sometimes we might have to skip a project due to school events, snow days, etc... but generally, we will stick to the syllabus.

You will be held responsible for getting your own makeup work if you are absent.
You can find your makeup work here . Make it up on your own time, not in class.

Grade 6 Art

Week One : Unity -- "About Me" Collage; Introduction to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
Week Two: Dominance -- Chinese Calligraphy, South American Mola ,
Week Three: Balance -- Native American Motifs and History; Islamic Mosaics;
Week Four: Texture and Space --Texture Motif Collage; 1- and 2- Point Perspective Drawing; Test
Week Five: Form --African Motif and Metal Work; papier-mâché Social Statement Sculptures; possible guest speaker
Week Six: Line --Finish sculptures, class critique, Contour Drawings
Week Seven: Rhythm -- Pointillist landscape paintings
Week Eight: Portfolio Week -- Guest speaker; selecting works for portfolio; presentations
Week Nine: Tests and Finals; special craft projects

Grade 7 Art

Week One : Unity -- "About Me" collage; introduction to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design
Week Two: Form/Architecture -- "Design a Structure" Project; 1-point and 2-point perspective review
Week Three: Color/Value -- Color Intensity Chart; Monochromatic Figure Painting (like Picasso's Blue Period.)
Week Four: Form/Rhythm -- Class Mobile Project; study of the work of Calder
Week Five: Space/Line -- Positive/Negative Space Checkerboards; Calligraphy
Week Six: Dominance/Color -- Study of the work of Andy Warhol and Impressionists; Create 2 paintings of same subject using color to change feeling
Week Seven: Value/Line -- Value Charts; Still-life shaded contour drawings
Week Eight: Portfolio Week -- Guest speaker; selecting works for portfolio; presentations
Week Nine: Tests and Finals; special craft projects

Grade 8 Art

Week One : Unity -- "About Me" collage; introduction to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design
Week Two: Gestalt/Color -- Advertising Art (possible guest speaker); 7 Color Schemes;
Week Three: Rhythm/Color -- Create 7 square paintings of one subject. Paint each in a different color scheme.
Week Four: Figure Drawing -- Create 2 portraits; one in the style of Andy Warhol, and One in the style of Toulouse-Lautrec
Week Five: Architecture/Form -- Guest Speaker; WTC Redesign Project. Begin designing replacement for WTC buildings.
Week Six: Architecture/Form cont'd -- Build and present mock-ups of WTC rebuild
Week Seven: Performance Art -- Study Blue Man Group; Cirque du Soleil; Stomp. Create performance art piece.
Week Eight: Portfolio Week -- Guest speaker; selecting works for portfolio; presentations
Week Nine: Tests and Finals; special craft projects
