Scene 1 - Int. Early Morning
the song Time Warp starts up in the background, as you jump into scene from black. Cued with the music, a you see a cup crash down on a bathroom sink. pan up to see a boy, aged about 16, furiously brushing his teeth. He is in an obvious rush, and gets the chore done in a matter of seconds.
RUN CREDITS
POV PAN the boy, (call him Steve) running out of the bathroom and down the stairs.
CUT TO
A QUIET SUBURBAN KITCHEN where the door suddenly opens, (again timed with the music), and Steve bursts in. He runs toward the table, falling off-kilter, and nearly missing the target. and finally sits down. He wolfs down a glass of milk, grabs a nutri-grain bar, and runs out the front door.
POV Shot (ext) Boy running toward the road where a GREEN CADDY was waiting to take him off to school. Boy bolts into the car, and by the looks of the other people's faces, this is nothing new.
END CREDITS
Shot of car from back, as the car screeches out of the lane, leaving rubber in its wake. As car disappears off in the distance, the music fades.
FADE TO BLACK
Scene 2 - ext. parking lot , small, rural, private school
FADE IN
DUB OVER SILENT
As the boy gets out of the car, narrator (Steve) begins to talk about his life.
STEVE: I've been going to this school since the fourth grade. Woodward, it's called, and I guess its alright. I mean, I have a lot of friends and all, but my life just doesn't seem complete here.
Steve goes into the building, waving hi to a teacher in the driveway
STEVE (contd.): The teachers like me, and I get okay grades, so I guess I can't complain. I mean, I could be back at public school...
CUT TO
Library of school, Int. Morning
Shot is of RAY, emersed in a book, Catcher in the Rye, and looking like he doesn't want to be disturbed. However, as CAMERA PANS UP, and STEVE enters the room, Ray looks over.
RAY: hey, Steve.
STEVE: just fine, I guess.
RAY: Heard you went to the dance on Friday. How was it?
STEVE: It was okay, I guess. Hey ! Why weren't you there? everyone else was.
RAY: I was....busy that night. (looks back in the book)
STEVE: okay..see ya, Ray.
Steve walks away, and the shot goes back to Ray. again, silence prevails while Ray acts as the narrator this time.
RAY: (overdub) I feel bad about lying to people, I really do, especially Steve. I mean, he's a nice guy, and he means well, but I just can't seem to help it. Oh well.
