Beautiful
By Kati Frazier
They send her silk
for her to wear
so she may have comfort.
Her hair drapes the sky.
Her robes give the night.
Substance
And the sun in her hand
is fading . . .
They offered her fire
so that she may
always see her beauty.
Her hands ripple the ocean.
Her feet are why the sky
moves.
And the stars at her feet
are dying . . .
They give her the seas
for her health
so that she may never thirst.
Her breath is winter;
her scent is the warmth
of summer
And the clouds in her hair
are darkening . . .
They hand over what's left
of the sun
to keep her warm.
Her words can make mountains.
Her sighs are v.alleys
and canyons
And the taste of her breath
is bitter . . .
They give her the night sky
so she might return
its lost brilliance.
Her will melts the snow.
Her thoughts can make
blood boil.
The flower she keeps
is wilting . . .
They give her their lives
so she'll have something
to kill.
