A Look Back: How the 'Everyday' Songs Sounded Live in '01

Chas Andres

I Did it: Mostly unchanged from the album version, with the ladies added. It was pretty low by DMB standards on Everyday, and is still kinda crappy on tour. Prediction: Will make occasional appearances in the years to come, but not nearly as often.

When The World Ends: Not that bad a song on the album, but overplayed to death. It makes it out at almost every show. Aside from the ending when they turn all the lights off suddenly, this song is really dissapointing live. No solos or anything added to it at all. Prediction: This song will remain in rotation, but not as often. Dave apparently likes it enough to play it every day, though.

The Space Between: A good song, but again overplayed and tiring. The ultamate 'Crash into me'. This song will be oft-requested at shows by radio fans for years to come. Live, it sounds nice(Bela would add a lot), but again it doesn't change or have any real jamming at all. Prediction: Like 'Crash into me', this song will be played less and less every year as the band gets tired of it.

Dreams of Our Fathers: They'll eventually play this song. Just not this year. I have a feeling they're going to add something to it (a jam maybe?) and unveil it next year.

So Right: This song just rocks live. It has solos, small intricate jams, and sounds awesome. Prediction: This song will be a concert favorite for years

If I had it all: Not that bad a song on the album, but lacks the depth to hold it's own live. A standard version of this is played a lot, and nothing much ever changes about it. Prediction: This song will be dropped after 2001

What you are: Nice intro to one of the better Everyday songs. Sounds good live, and hopefully will continute to evolve. Prediction: Next year will determine the future of this song.

Angel: One of the crappiest songs on the album, one of the best live as long as it doesn't get overplayed. The ladies outtro with the introductions is really nice. Let's hope they keep this song, but don't overuse it. Prediction: This song will stay in limited rotation

Fool to think: Not played all that much live because it's not that good live. Or on the album for that matter. Live it's relatively unchanged from the album version. Prediction: This will be dropped after 2001 too.

Sleep to Dream Her: I liked this song on the album, but live it's the ultimate crowd killer. Grace is Gone is beautiful, I'll back you up is one of the best ballads ever, but I've never seen a song take as much away from a crowd as STDH. It's pretty unchanged from the album, too. (except for the new transition into grace is gone) Prediction: Please drop this song. Please.

Mother Father: This song is one big 'eh' live. It doesn't sound right, it doesn't have anything special about it, and the band doesn't play it enough to be able to experiment with a jam, so it's standard. Prediction: This song will be dropped after 2001.

Everyday: With #36, this is a killer song. Also, it adds alot to the #41 outtro. One of the keepers of the album, and very jammed out live, but you can attribute most of that to #36... Prediction: will continue to be used as part of both #36 and #41

All in all, the everyday album gave us one new concert favorite, an improvement on #41 (mixed reactions on whether it improves #36),two new ultimate radio singles, one new lovely ladies jam, one overplayed song sometimes used as an opener, one song missing altogether, one possibility, and 4 duds.

Not Quite BTCS, eh?
