Every Morning

Chas Andres

7 A.M.

Gone is the careless joy that visited

All too briefly in the night

Gone is the unending rush of adventure

Excitement, uncertainty and metaphor

As you are forced prematurely

Into the haze and confusion

Reality

Your eyes slowly open

And you begin to remember

And warm rush hits your body

For She is the first thing you remember

And you casually glance to your side

Hoping that this will be the morning

That your eyes will meet with hers

That you will feel her touch on your face

But all you see is the cold florescence

Illuminating the hallway out the door

And all you feel is a shiver

Running down your spine

Longing

You remember more

An algebra test

A chemistry lab

A French quiz

And a paper to write

Before the moment that

She graces your life again

And you remember you have

Countless more mornings of this

Before you glance to your side

And your eyes meet with Hers

And you groggily shake your head

And you don't know if you can take it

For one more moment

Despair

Then the light in the hallway

Begins to flicker

Bringing you back to reality

But She stays with you

She always stays with you

And you remember what you took for granted

Just moments before

You remember her love

And you know that one morning

You are sure that one morning

You will be together

Hope

And you move a shivering arm

To take off the covers

And you step out of bed disoriented

And you instinctually walk toward

The fluorescent light in the hall

And in an instant the warmth returns

And it washes over you

And the feeling returns

The feeling of complete peace

The reason for being

Love
