In the Halls
By Kati Frazier
I see them often
in the halls.
I could have sworn
there was a time
when they gazed
in one another's eyes.
Now they clasp hands
and walk together.
No smiles.
No words.
Held by some
silent invisible bond
that perhaps
they both regret.
A cold kiss exchanged
not of love
but of obligation.
And as she walks away
in the corner
of my eye
I could have sworn
that for once
I saw her smile.
Back Home!
