My Take on Meeting people Online

Chas Andres

I happen to think that the internet is one of the best places to meet fun new people, as long as you know what you're doing. For instance, on Sparkmatch, I think most of the people are honest, and I have met plenty of friends through that. Also, through AIM, you can meet some great friends of friends, that you can get to know very well. AOL chat rooms are not really a great place to meet people. I know the only reason most people go in those is to lie about themselves completely, and totally make some other poor schmuck look stupid. That's the other thing. In those chat rooms, I would bet you that 80% of the girls aren't really girls at all, and probably aren't under 40. (Unless they are under about 15). Anyway, those are fun to crash, but I've never met anyone in one of those. This brings me to my next question: How well can you actually get to know someone without meeting them in person? For that, I'd have to answer that it really depends on the person. There are those people who answer everything with the casual 'Yea', and their true nature is never revealed. There are other people who answer all of their IM's in sentences, just like in conversations, and with a bit of talking, you can find out a lot about them. Also, this way, you can meet people from areas were you would never otherwise be. Online, someone 3000 miles away can be just as good a friend as someone next door. That is truly the wonder of the internet.
