For My Own Sake
By Kati Frazier
I shed a tear for you.
Not for your sake,
but for my own.
To tell myself
in it's crystalline shape,
that I am not too gone.
I shed a tear for you.
Like so many before that
you shed for me.
Compassion wrenched out,
streaked and aching.
You never said how
cleansing this could be.
I shed a tear for you.
A raindrop against my skin
so slow in falling.
From my blue clouds
that squeeze and blink
to hold rain in.
I shed a tear for you.
I pray it be not the last.
hot, it bathes my soul
in deep emotion.
That is not mine own,
but is yours of the past.
