Storm of Tears

By Kati Frazier

The rain fell, as though the ground would save it.

People ran, praying to make it.

But she just sat there crying.

Hail shattered the window of her car.

The mud became as thick as tar.

But she just stood there crying.

Bruises strewn across her face.

And down that face, tears did race.

But she continued crying.

Her husband told her he was sorry,

he dropped the bat he used to carry.

But she kept walking, crying.

She wondered, "Why keep this life?"

and she picked up the kitchen knife.

Still she could not stop crying.

She turned and saw his eyes had grown,

fearing the object she held to be thrown.

Through anger and pain she kept crying.

Outside the storm screamed and thundered,

inside her husband yelled and blundered.

This was the last time he would hurt her.

She was crying.
