The Storybooks have Lied

By Kati Frazier

No knight is coming.

The storybooks have lied.

There is no lamp to grant my wish,

nor dragon to chide.

No fairy godmother will save me,

and turn my rags to gold.

And I fear I am no heroine,

not clever wise or bold.

No 'stiltskin offers me a deal,

no king makes me a queen.

I won't stumble across a house

where dwarves will take me in.

I fear I'm Sleeping Beauty,

but my knight's been hit by a train.

Now no one will save me

and I sleep through sun and rain.

No knight is coming.

The story books have lied.

There is no lamp to hear my wish

nor dragon to chide.
