The Control Panel version 3

The trackball in version 2 was based on a Logitech trackball. I had replaced the 2" Logitech ball with an arcade 2-1/4" ball, but the trackball's tiny rubber rollers didn't reach the new ball; I needed larger rollers to contact the new ball properly. I fashioned replacement rollers from mechanical pencil erasers, which worked well... for a while. After a while, though, eraser dust started emerging from the trackball as the new rollers wore away.

Frustrated with this turn of events, I bought a Golden Tee Trackball from Happ Controls for $69 on sale. This 3" ball, however, would not fit in my control panel! In the meantime, frustrated with control issues on four-way games, I picked up a 4-way joystick from a Donkey Kong Jr. machine from eBay.

These new controls sat in a box for six months as I planned the perfect control panel. With no "perfect" panel in sight, I finally put together a "temporary" panel so I could use the new controls.

Here is the new panel. The tiny ball-top joystick in the top center is the Donkey Kong Jr. joystick. It is wired to the same keys as the regular player 1 joystick.

You'll notice that the bezel art is missing. I had recently replaced my Mag 19" monitor with a Wells-Gardener D9100 monitor. The new monitor didn't fit my old bezel, so I threw together a temporary one until I can pick up a good one from Happ's. I also replaced the old torn-up black T-molding with new blue T-molding.
