Comments:  While I was a dog handler at Pleiku in 1969, I duped a reel-to-reel recording of the TET 68 attack on Tan Son Nhut, recorded from inside CSC.  I'm curious to know whether anyone else has heard this tape?

Comments:  I was assigned to the 377th Security Police Squadron from 21 April 1969 - 22 April 1970.  I worked Charlie Shift (nights), Bravo Sector.  I ran the support unit for the sector.  Remember many nights getting coffee and anything else the chow hall would give me for the boys in the bunkers.  Well, I could go on for hours about war stories, considering I made the Air Force a career of 24 years.  If anyone is looking for Dennis Devins, my email address is above.

Comments:  Great site!!  I really enjoy reading all the stories and hearing from the guys.  I was with the 51st SPS, Osan, AB, Korea from 82-84 and also at Clark, AB, PI.  Many of the guys I served with were in the Nam and Thailand but I lost touch with them.  I forget the exact years but here it goes ...
James Thurmond, Plieku, AB, RVN
Raymond Johnson, Phan Rang, AB, RVN
Oscar Dubose, Phu Cat, AB, RVN
Glenn Holmes, U-Tapao, AB, Thailand.  If anybody has heard or know of their locations, let me know.  I also am trying to start up a web page on the 51st Security Police Squadron.  Please check it out and I accept all help and know how as this is all new to me as far as designing one.  Your help is appreciated.  Randy Kotabish (Big Daddy).

Comments:  I am glad to be an American and would do everything all over again if I had 33 years taken off my age.  It was quite a growing up period during 65 & 66.   I was transferred down to the Tan Son Nhut Air Police from Bien Hoa with the "RAT PATROL" in Dec. or Jan.  I had volunteered to go with the escort jeeps when they were reassigned to the 377th.  It was a daily challenge to enjoy the country's landscape while escorting the munitions via convoy from Cat Lai to Bien Hoa or Tan Son Nhut.   And a lot of dramatic changes between the two bases.  I have recently found six fellow airmen through your network in which we will be getting together.  Thank you for a 33 year dream come true!  Don(animal)

Comments:  Hello...  I came across your web page this evening while searching for 377th Security Police Squadron sites.  I've only gotten as far as your sign in page, and look forward to seeing the rest.  I have a lot of photos of the compound, and the one of the front gate brought back a lot of memories.  Good aerial too!

I was there from Feb. 68 to Oct 69.  Worked in "special projects", for the commanders.  Looking back they were the full spectrum of emotions.  But am certainly glad that I was part of it all!

If you would be interested in some of the photos, I would be glad to scan them and send them along one day.

Merry Christmas and Happy Y2K

Comments:  Hey Charlie, this is for the 377th SPS webpage.  I can't believe that it has been 33 years, 13 days and 7 1/2 hours since I landed at Tan Son Nhut.   I'm sure that we all remember what was to happen just a few short hours later.  It actually made my next 19 months and 3 days seem a little boring, until TET 68, of course.  Everthing in between was just to keep us on our toes I suppose.  I hope you all have a fantastic holiday season.

Comments:  Charlie:  The last few weeks I have zeroed my memory banks on the workings of the Resource Protection Flight of the 377th SPS.  "Blue Flight" or Blue Patrol as it was called, came into being, in late March 1970 with TSgt John Chittuck(sp?) in charge.  I worked the patrol from March 24, to my end of tour 29 June 70.   The brass as well as the SP's had some colorful names for the flight(many of which will not be spelled out in a family forum).  Needless to say we were a rather diverse bunch.   Since I was one of just a couple of E-4's not at the command, my main job was to drive to the different sectors (basewide) and keep the sentrys awake, with BS, coffee, oranges, apples, water, smokes, ect.  It was an interesting way to finish my tour.  Looking for guys that may have served on the Blue Patrol.

Comments:  I was assigned to the LOX fuels section, Tan Son Nhut, Aug 67 - Aug 68.   I have a picture of a guy I befriended in the security police, when I was there.   Perhaps you could identify him.  He was from Georgia and I remember at TET 68 he was on the mid-shift across the road from my plant where you guys had an M-60 machine gun sert up at a checkpoint.  The Australian EOD team had a building not to far from us closer to the runway.

As I write this, long forgotten memories are starting to emerge.  Anyway thought I would touch base with you as I go through the site.  I'm pretty sure his name was Charlie, come to think of it, I pay have a picture of his name tag.  If you would like some other pictures let me know and I'll see what I can dig up.

As the VDHA unit director for the 377th SPS K-9, I would like to hear from all the old dogmen from Tan Son Nhut. I would especially like to find guys from 66-69. I have been searching for Joe Richardson who handled Augie. I am also looking for dogmen who were stationed at either Kincheloe AFB, MI or Wurtsmith AFB, MI at any time. All dogmen with Vietnam service should be making plans to attend the Y2K VDHA reunion in Washington DC the fall of 2000.  Jim Stewart    ( Apr 21, 1999 )

Comments: Thank you for establishing this great link to our past. I am currently assigned to the 377th Security Forces Squadron at Kirtland AFB, NM. Since I arrived at this unit I have always taken pride in being a part of one of the few active Air Force Security Forces units that can boast of a proud combat tradition like this one. This pride was compounded when I attended the Ground Combat Skills course at Camp Bullis, TX and the Security Forces Officer Basic Course at Lackland AFB, TX. Studying the attack on Tan Son Nhut and how this unit responded, attending class in (Col. Billy Jack) Carter Hall, and visiting the Security Police Museum at Lackland served to increase the great deal of respect I have for this unit's history. Thank you to everyone who served before us. If the situation dictates that we are called upon to serve as you did, I hope that we can perform up to the high standards you have set.

Comments: Hello to everyone that came before, with and after me. Great Site. I arrived at Tan Son Nhut sometime in March 65. I came from Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana. My memory has almost gone AWOL and it is very flustrating and sometimes embrassing. Some of the comments here revive it somewhat and I would like to thank you and every one who has signed in. Kailey's comments were especially refreshing. I seem to recall that we were designated the 33rd AFSQ before becoming the 6250th and then the 377th SPS. I left there about the middle of the year with approximately 75 others to go to Bihn Thuy, which was not built at the time. Kailey, we were the first to wear the beret. If anyone would post names of members who were there at the time I was, I would sure appreciate it. I remember, Teddy Wright, SSgt Sullivan, Peace Williams and White Snyder. I remember more faces but cannot put a name to them. Col. Benton is living in Washington State. If anyone remembers when we went to Bihn Thuy or went with me, let me know, there is a problem with my records. THANKS again.  Richard Shelton    ( Mar 22, 1999 )

Comments: I sent an e-mail yesterday from the web site but I don't think it went through. I served in VN 07/66 - 03/67 at Tan Son Nhut, AB, the Law Enforcement section, and was there for the nightmare of Dec 4 and 5. I saw the picture of NEMO and I knew a K-9 from Port St. Joe but don't recall his name. I went through training with him at Lackland and traveled home to FL. with him before going to VN, that name does not ring a bell, maybe its my memory. Anyway, I would like to communicate with anyone from that time period as I have always regretted not keeping in touch with a great bunch of guys.
I can appreciate what you went through on Jan 31, 1968. I worked jeep patrol at night around the garbage dump area and we knew that the VC could come through anytime they wantd. I have some pics. stored and I am now going to get them out and reminiscent. I still have a c-ration can opener from the old days on my key chain. Later.  Prentice E. I would also like to point out that my father was assigned to the 377th Combat Support Squadron, 7th Air Force, Tan Son Nhut, Air BAse, RVN from Jan 27, 1966 to Dec 27, 1966. He ended up doing 32 years, in the Air Force and finally retired in 1993. Although he was not ever in our career field, he was a Comptroller/Finance troop. He will be happy I found this page. Comments: I am so happy to find this wonderful site. While I was not in the Air Force. I sure enjoyed the content. I was stationed at Tan Son Nhut from Mar 67 thru Mar 68, in the US Army. I was in the security platoon of the 79th Ordnance Detachment. I was a Security Guard, carrying the Tactical MOS of Military Police. I have so many memories of TSN. One lighter memory was the night this (ME), 18 year old went downtown and had alot too much to drink. Upon returning to base that night I decided instead of walking the road around the end of the runway, I decided to take the short cut by running across the runway. Now this is not good because something was either landing or taking off CONSTANTLY. After crossing the runway I ran headon into a very mad Security Policeman with his K-9 Companion. Neither of which were happy in the least bit. Thankfully he sent me on my way after a severe tongue lashing. I never tried that again. I remember all the Security Police we welcomed into the 79th Ordnance to re-stock their water thermos with ice. God Bless you ALL!!! There was the Navy, Sea Bees Warehouse, across the road and Vietnamese Air Force NCO billets next door. We were all in it together. And, then there was TET. God Bless you ALL!!!  Loren Peterson     ( Jan 25, 1999 )

Comments: I did one and a half tours. First tour was in 1963, six months TDY to set up Communications Squadron at Tan Son Nhut, Air Base, RVN. At that time most of the main base was right inside the main gate, across from 100-P Alley. 2nd tour 1971-72, I was assigned to MACV HQ language school. I was the NCOIC, Test Control Team. I took testing teams out to test VNAF for English Language Apptitude, to determine their ability to learn english, so they could be taught english and sent to the United States for Technical Training. I really enjoyed this web page. I liked the aerial of Tan Son Nhut. I stayed in a contract hotel in Cholon but would visit medic friends at TSN and would stay the second barracks up from the Base Exchange right across from Helo Pad (Hotel-3).  CMSgt Max R. Comments: I was assigned to the Preventive Medicine Section, 377th USAF Dispensary, Tan Son Nhut, Air Base, May 70 - Mar 71.   I appreciate the job your unit did to keep an eye out for the rest of us and hope in some way my associates and I did our best to keep you folks healthy and combat ready.  Did you hate those darn low flying copters as much as I did?  Even after all these years, I still think of Nam when I hear a helicopter and I live only four blocks from the local hospital, which has a medivac helicopter.  Nice recon photo of our living quarters, who would have thought of finding an aerial shot on the web after all these years.  I am an avid AUBURN University sports fan and remember there being a wheeled APC with the nickname, "WAR EAGLE," in the 1300 area on several occassions while I was there May 70 - Mar 71.   Tried to locate the guys assigned to her but never was able to find them.  Best of luck to each and everyone of you.   Frederick A Feld    ( Jan 16, 1999 )

Comments: Charlie, I just finished going over your web site, CONGRATULATIONS !! I was most impressed. As an ex-K-9 handler with the 8th Security Police Squadron @ Ubon RTAFB, I was most impressed with the K-9 Pixs. The story section absolutely gave me chills regarding the Tet offensive. You have done a superb job, one to be very proud of. Welcome home, stay safe. Pete Williams (Lt46rn@aol.com) 8th SPS/K-9 Ubon RTAFB (1973)  Pete Williams    ( Jan 15, 1999 )

Comments: I was at Tan Son Nhut working the night of the TET 68 Offensive.   I was on the flight line.  I heard on the Central Security Control radio net, when the VC forced Coggins out of the 051 bunker.   Do you have further information on his medal at Lackland.   I would like to attend.  Frank Ybaro     ( Jan 15, 1999 )

Comments: I was stationed at Tan Son Nhut from June 65 to May 67.&nbap;  When I got to TSN the Air Police Squadron was the 6250th Combat Defense Squadron, we later changed to the 377th Security Police Squadron.   I worked as an armorer in the old Central Security Control, across from the chow hall.  I was assigned to D Flight, TSGT Stephens, was my Flight Sgt.  Sgt. Floyd Baker ran the armory.  Maj. Schlotterback was the Squadron Commander.  After he left Col. Benton was the next Squadron Commander.  I can remember the rocket attack on Dec 06, 1966, when the POL area got zapped along with the alert pad.  Then we had another rocket sometime later, I cannot remember but it was averaging one per year.  The barracks looks different, when I was there there were no sandbags ringed around the barracks.   I remember something about one rocket attack where our new armory was between the new barracks.  We were pinned down and could not get to the armory to get our weapons to respond to our alert posts on the flight line perimeter.  I believe it was the 377th Security Police Squadron that was the first to get permission to wear the blue berets that are worn now.  Of course the Air Police at SAC Headquarters, Offut, AFB had them before we started wearing them in Nam, but I believe we were the first to wear them as a unit.  Does anyone still remember the Quan Canh's that used to work at the main gate, Lt. Dat ( Billy Bad Ass  ), QC Long Fingers ...   Kailey Wong     ( Jan 14, 1999 )

Comments: Hello:  I found my name in your file.  My full name is Charles Edward Crockett Jr.  I arrived in country on the 12 of March 1970 ( not quite the "Ides of March" but close) and left for the real world on 7 March 1971, almost one year later.  DUKE 6A47 was a Patrol Dog.  He shipped in from Cam Rahn Bay where he had attended a retraining school that changed him from a Sentry Dog into a Patrol Dog.  He was one of three Patrol dogs.  They were the first Patrol Dogs to be stationed at Tan San Nhut.  Several others followed them.  Your friend:  Charles E. Crockett     ( Jan 11, 1999 )

Comments:   Thank you!!!   Today I got a call from my 2nd best friend from Viet Nam - 1970 - 1st best friend was Duke 6A47.  The caller located me after finding your web site of 377th SPS.  I was not there but he started looking.   He was successful.  I have spent many hours looking for him without success.  Thanks to you, after 27 years I was able to talk with him and exchange many old memories.

If you want to add my e-mail please do so.  My rank was Sgt.   My first k-9 was named Prince, a Sentry Dog.  I do not have his number.  My second K-9 was Duke 6A47, a Patrol Dog.

I was one of the first Patrol Dog handlers out of Lackland AFB.   When some K-9 had been trained up at Cam Rahn Bay and shipped down I was assigned one of them.  Duke.

This is a great site.  I enjoyed it and the memories.  I have shared many stories with my Grandkids - thanks to you now I have some pictures and other stories they can see and read.  Thank You.

I do have a few pictures.  I will dig them out and feel free to use what you want.  Respectfully:  Charles and Ronda Crockett    ( Jan 06, 1999 )
