Comments:  I served in the 6250th Air Police Sqn and 377th Air Police Sqn from November 1965 until November 1966.  From November '65 until January '66 I humped various posts including the flight line, 051 gate, 051 bunker, and 055 gate, as an A2C (E-3).   When I arrived, the 051 bunker had not been manned for some time.   Somebody decided to man it at night and I was the first AP to get the privilege (alone).   The back door had been left open for a long time, so the inside was filthy.   My second night in the bunker, I borrowed a broom from the mama-san and cleaned the place out even though I always stayed in the top part.  January '66 I got promoted to A1C (E-4) and was assigned as 60 gunner on a jeep with TSGT Hiten and A1C Crowdus.  In June of that year they made TSGT Hiten the NCOIC of Customs and he took Crowdus and me with him.   Customs was a really interesting job and I have always felt lucky to work in that section.   I still have my blue AP helmet liner and white arm brassard as mementos of my customs assignment.

Comments:  I was stationed at Tan Son Nhut between Nov 66 and Jul 67, I was posted at Echo Post 4, the infamous 051 bunker.  I have always been sad for those, of my fellow comrades, who fell in battle during the TET offensive.  We all knew (except those that should have) that the attack, when it came would come through that position.   My memory is not great and I don't remember the other two guys I was stationed with on the 051 bunker, can anyone help.  Thanks and God bless.

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  The officers and senior NCO's of the 377th Security Police Squadron had conducted a mock attack on the O-51 gate and surrounding area, approximately one week prior to TET 1968.  At that time, our superiors thought the attack would come through the O-51 Gate.  During TET 1968, Tan Son Nhut, Air Base, was attacked from nine different locations.  The main thrust of the attack, occurred at the O-51 Gate as forecast by our superiors.

Two, 1965 to 1968, U.S.N.,which flew out of Tan Son Nhut and later, from Cam Rahn Bay, in 1968 and 1969 for "Operation Market Time."  Our squadron and crew finally got back stateside from the 1966 deployment and several weeks later, an old neighborhood friend was killed in an enemy attack at TSN, with two other men.

I didn't find out about this man until my mom sent me his obituary and picture from a local paper for a few weeks, as she sent some mail overseas by mistake and it took me a while to get it.  This man's name was Mr. Johnny Cole and some of us younger guys used to play stick ball or half ball, with the older guys, in the neigborhood, Johnny Cole being one of the older guys.  We used to play this form of baseball back in the streets of Philly, PA.(Manayunk)

I never knew Johnny was stationed at that base, while I was there and after watching that show on the Discovery Channel about the "Wardogs."  I just found this web page and the TSN Association site via links from "Wardogs, the Untold Story."

Thank you for a great site and the memorial as I see Johnny and so many others are not forgotten.  Also, thank's to the 377th Security Police Squadron and their K-9 freinds, the WarDogs, as you may have saved our crew and sqdron mates from a would-be attack at one time or another.  A special thanks to the Wardogs, you may have been left behind, but you are not forgotten.  They are truely POW/LIA's, Prisoners of War/Left in Action.....

Comments:  For many years now I have been wondering who were the two wounded men I carried back from a QRT team during the TET Offensive 1968, at Tan Son Nhut.  I thought it was Sgt Ott until last year when we met and he said he was shot trying to retake the O-51 bunker.   By that time I was already shot up a bit myself so it could not have been Sgt Ott.

Finally located Lynn Auble who was in the hospital in Japan with me, but he said he was shot by the 1300 area.  One of the young men had been shot through the arm and wrist.  His forearm was dangling when I got to him.  The other had been hit through his hip and groin and was in pretty bad shape.  After six weeks in the Hospital at Tachikawa, Japan, he was sent back to the states and I returned to Tan Son Nhut.

Is there anyone out there who can fill me in on the names of these two young men?  I have thought of them often and wondered how well they recovered and what they have done with their lives since.  This E-mail is being sent from work.  Yep, the old Warrior is still putting in an eight hour day five days a week and on call 24/7.   My best wishes to all the fine young men of the 377th.

CARL A BENDER

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  "WELCOME HOME, LTC Bender.   For those men of the 6220th and the 6250th Air Police Squadron, this Col Bender was assigned to the 377th Security Police Squadron and was Maj Bender at the time of TET 1968.  I say this so as not to confuse the two Maj Bender's.

If there is anyone who has information on his request then please forward them to him as quickly as possible.  LTC Bender, is one of my old bosses.  A fine officer and took care of his men.  I will definately B/C him by email.

Comments:  I served with the 377th Security Police Squadron as a K-9 handler from 04/72 until 03/73.  I have really enjoyed looking through this whole homepage of the 377th SPS, it's history, photographs and etc...  I am a little perplexed as to why there is not a whole lot of info in the later years of the unit before it was deactivated.

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  "WELCOME HOME, to all those that served in Vietnam!!!"  Like you, I was in K-9.  I was first assigned to Charlie Sector, later transferred to Foxtrot Sector.  Then my Sentry Dog became available to me and then permenantly assigned to the Sentry Dog Sector.  I consider myself the keeper of some of the records.  This is ** OUR ** web page.  I really do alot of research pertaining to our old unit, but without people like you and the others it will never be complete.

I am glad that you found our web page.  I would like to add your name to the Sentry Dog section, with the name of your K-9 and email address.  But at this point, I can not do so.  You did not give me your first name, nor the name of your K-9.

If you have a duty roster, old set of orders with additional 377th SPS names, photographs and etc... then I would certainly make additions to the web page.  I always need help.  Then if I make an error, then I expect people to tell me of the error, so that I can make the correction.  Really it is simply that not many of the men who came later on, have made contact with us.  Do you have a photograph of your K-9 that you can scan and send to me, or send to me by regular mail?

You should truely be proud of your web site, here in cyberspace.  A fellow vet stands a little taller when he finds his lost unit or friend(s), but to find his unit website after 30 years and finds it to be first class website at that, makes all veterans very proud to know they are a part of it...  Well Done... Web Master ..... Well Done!

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  For those that may not have heard of the Vietnam Security Police Association (VSPA) their web page can be found at URL:   http:www.vspa.com   I go to that web page every day to read their emails sent in by people like you and me.  If I can help an individual with their question, then I send them an email.  I would also invite everyone who comes to this web site to also check the VSPA web page.  Their web page is also one of the Top Ten, veterans web page.

Comments:  This is for the 377th SP web page.  My name is Robert Fike, I was at Tan Son Nhut, from Dec 01, 1966 to Nov 28, 1967, assigned to the 377th Air Police Sq. Base Patrol, main gate, cantonment areas etc..  I was called out the morning of Dec 04, 1966, because of the sapper attack.  Three air police were killed that morning, one of those, I can't remember his first name, was A2C Riddle.  I had proccessed in with him three days before and we shared the same cubicle in the barracks.  I'll never forget the feeling that came over me, when it came down the line, that a new man had just been cut down.  "His name was Riddle"!  I've been to the wall and found his name, a very strange and empty feeling.  For all of those who served in Viet Nam, and made it back,"WELCOME HOME," and be proud of yourself.

Comments:  Great job on the page.  My dad was at Tan Son Nhut, (Foxtrot Sector) Mar 1967 - Mar 1968.  I can't even begin to imagine ...  I'm on active duty, and just returned from Bosnia, but even that in no way compares.  Anyway, one little suggestion...  blue on a black background makes for some difficult reading.   I was interested in the stories, but was getting a headache trying to read them.   Other than that, it's great!!!

Very Respectfully,
SrA Andrea Riley

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  I believe you are exactly right, I will be changing the background for the view book with this message.    Please check back in a week or so, to see the difference in the background on the various stories page.

Comments:  I was TDY to Tan Son Nhut AB from May thru Sep 1964 from Naha AB Okinawa. I lived in an area of 8-man tents in what was a French cemetery, a few headstones were still standing.  Going off base (through the gate) there was a cemetery to the right with many white headstones.  Once off the base there were numerous stores almost immediately.  Looking at the map of Tan Son Nhut it appears my location (tent) was between Gate 0-51 and 0-55?  I remember walking some distance to CSC which was located in a circular area with the Officers', NCO and Airman Clubs.  From my tent I could see aircraft (C-123) parked on the flight line.  These planes sprayed the defoliant Agent Orange on/over the jungle.  Going off base and turning right, I remember going to a nice swimming pool.  It was at this pool that I learned how to swim.   Currently I work in civil service for the Air Force Inspection Agency at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.

Comments:  It seems we are gaining new members within the various Security Police units as the weeks go by.  I believe it is important as the internet grows that we update ourselves and what we did.  Names become harder to remember but faces and actions remain with us.

I still remember the overnight shifts on "Charlie Flight" while working the Blue Patrol (Resource Protection Flight,) when it came into being in March 1970, for the 377th Security Police Squadron and Tan Son Nhut.  Those nights as well as my nights on the Echo Sector tower and flight line patrol that proceeded them become more vivid as I check my memory banks.  I have a good life, but those times will always be a part of that life.  I think it is important that we update ourselves as more of our old brothers hit on these sites and find us on the net.

Comments:  My name is Nora Moore.  I am the oldest daughter of CMSgt Thomas Moore, who was assigned to the 6250th Civil Engr. Sq., Tan Son Nhut, Air Base from April 65 to Oct 31, 1965.  Dad and three of his buddies by the name of Sam Adams, Charles Dusing and Jasper Page, took care of the coolant systems, air conditioning, refrigeration.   Like many Airmen, they worked long hours and days without a day off.  The four of them got a 24 hour R&R and went to Vung Tau, by air transportation.  On their return to TSN, via ground transportation, they were captured by VC, on Oct 31, 1965.  Only Jasper Page escaped after a few days of incarceration.  I am trying to find a 6250th patch that I might obtain.  The 6250th was the precursor to the 377th Command Group.   Also if anyone knew my dad, then I would be interested in hearing from you.   Please check out my web page dedicated to my father. Thanks in advance.
