DEATH of NELLIE:

"Leader and Kalkaskian," Kalkaska, Michigan, 8 Sept. 1952:

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Nellie Gardner Doherty, who passed away September 6, 1952 at Dearborn.

Mrs. Doherty was born in Lansing and moved with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Mack Gardner, to South Boardman when she was five years old.  She attended the local county schools, and was a teacher in the county and in the upper peninsula for several years.  She later taught music.

In 1916 she joined the Free Methodist Church and was a devoted Christian and an inspiration to all who knew her.

On October 8 she was united in marriage to William A. Doherty.  To this union two children were born, one daughter who passed away in infancy, and one son, Ronald, who lives in Dearborn.

Left to mourn her departure besides the husband and son of Dearborn, are two granddaughters, five brothers and one sister.  Oral Gardner of Traverse City, George Gardner of Butte, Montana, Frank Gardner of Flint, John Gardner of California, and Mrs. Eunice Christopher of Old Mission, also several other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held at the McGarland funeral home and burial was made in the Cadillac Memorial Gardens in West Detroit.  Rev. Cutler officiated.

They had the following CHILDREN:

1.  Infant Girl DOHERTY (Nellie) died unknown date.

2.  Ronald DOHERTY (Nellie) was born about 1911 in Michigan.
